Grecia: Waterfalls, Forest Reserve and Culture
Accommodation in Grecia
Grecia offers a range of attractions for nature and culture enthusiasts. Waterfalls shape the landscape in one park, a protected area is dedicated to regional water sources, and one sector has visitor trails with specified lengths. Art workshops and exhibitions round out the picture. Waterfall height, spring protection, and trail length each offer a different way to plan your trip.
Waterfalls and Location
Parque Recreativo Los Chorros has two waterfalls. They originate from the Río Prendas and the Quebrada Zamora and are each 48 meters high. The park is in the district of Tacares, four kilometers north of the district center. Part of the park is in the canton of Poás, and the other part is in the canton of Grecia. Both falls are the same height, but their source waters are different.
Forest Conservation and Trails
Reserva Forestal Grecia was established on January 25, 1974, under Law No. 5463, covering 2,611 hectares, to protect the area where water sources originate. These sources supply Grecia and other cantons in the region. The reserve therefore combines a defined area with a regional purpose. Unlike Los Chorros, the focus here is not on the height of individual waterfalls, but on protecting the area and its importance to the water supply of several cantons.
The Bosque del Niño sector has three visitor trails: Carboneras is 600 meters long, Los Pinos is 800 meters, and Panorámico is 1,800 meters. Carboneras is therefore 200 meters shorter than Los Pinos; Los Pinos is 1,000 meters shorter than Panorámico. If you are planning based on trail length, you can choose a shorter or a considerably longer option, with Los Pinos in between.
The Bosque del Niño sector is open Monday through Sunday, including holidays, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Check the opening hours before your visit so you can plan around the stated time window.
Natural Bridge and Road Connection
Puente de Piedra is a natural bridge over the Río Poró in the canton of Grecia. Puente de Piedra is currently part of a regional road that connects, among other places, Rincón de Salas and Puente Piedra. For orientation, this gives you both a natural landmark by the river and a specific road connection with named locations.
Art and Exhibitions
Centro de la Cultura de Grecia offers specialized art workshops. Dates vary depending on the activity, so check the specific program if you want to include a workshop in your plans. Mundo de las Serpientes in Grecia offers a different cultural focus, with exhibitions about snakes. The two offerings are clearly distinct: one features art workshops, while the other centers on exhibitions about snakes. This lets you identify cultural interests by specific topics rather than just general categories.
