Miches brings together coastal and nature experiences with activities centered on chocolate, Dominican cuisine and rural culture. Your trip can therefore focus on different interests: you can explore workshops and tastings, take in the seaside landscape, or plan around seasonal wildlife migrations.

Chocolate, cuisine and rural culture

The Canducito Cocoa Route includes chocolate-making workshops and connects the experience with rural life in Miches. If you’re interested in the process of making chocolate itself, the workshop offers a hands-on introduction to cocoa. At Casa Tradicional Conuco Doña Ana, by contrast, the focus is on tastings and homemade Dominican dishes prepared using artisanal methods. The culinary highlights differ: the route focuses on chocolate-making, while the Casa focuses on samples and dishes.

Casa Típica Conuco Doña Ana is a rural tourism experience where visitors can learn about Dominican country life and traditional crops. ARTEMI’s (Association of Artisans of Miches) workshops offer a different kind of experience: visitors learn traditional techniques, and the workshops foster cultural exchange.

Sea, wildlife and landscapes

Three sea turtle species nest on the beaches of Miches: Tinglar (Dermochelys coriácea), Carey (Eretmochelys imbricata) and Verde (Chelonia mydas). Humpback whales can be seen at a different time of year: from Miches, you can take excursions between January and March to observe part of their migration. If you’d like to plan your trip around these excursions, take this time frame into account when choosing your dates.

Playa El Morro is in the urban area of Miches and is a place to relax by the sea. Montaña Redonda has panoramic swings and 360° views of the coast, Laguna Limón and the surrounding landscape. The two places appeal to different interests: relaxing by the sea at one, and panoramic views and swings at the other.

Freshwater and the surrounding area

The Caño Hondo natural pools are freshwater pools surrounded by lush tropical vegetation. Unlike the coastal spots, freshwater and greenery together shape the natural setting here. Nearby, Los Haitises National Park is accessible from Miches. It is known for its mangroves, limestone formations, caves with ancient rock art and biodiversity. The caves with ancient rock art add a cultural perspective to the landscape and natural diversity. The wider travel region also includes Salto de La Jalda, one of the highest waterfalls in the Caribbean.

Miches as a destination for your hotel search

If you have a specific workshop, tasting or excursion in mind, check current availability in advance; for humpback whale excursions, also take the January-to-March time frame into account.
