The isthmus of Miquelon-Langlade connects the peninsulas of Grande Miquelon and Langlade as a sedimentary coastal strip. This landform is called a tombolo and is located in the Saint Pierre and Miquelon archipelago. Part of the isthmus is protected by the Conservatoire du littoral. The term here refers to the connecting landform; in addition, part of the isthmus is under protection. Together with cultural sites and island activities, this landscape shapes a trip through the archipelago.

Culture between the town and the island’s history

The Musée Héritage is located in the center of Saint-Pierre, in a 200-year-old building. The Musée Archipélitude houses part of the collections of the Association de Sauvegarde du Patrimoine de l’Archipel in the former school on Île-aux-Marins, as well as in the Maison Jézéquel and the Maison Grise. The locations differ: the Musée Héritage is in central Saint-Pierre, while Archipélitude is associated with three sites.

The Micro-Folie Saint-Pierre offers a different cultural format: a free digital cultural space for all age groups. With headsets, visitors can enjoy virtual experiences in 360-degree content, including a flight over Mont Blanc, swimming with dolphins, and a virtual stroll through Manet’s Bar aux Folies Bergères. The experiences range from an aerial perspective to a virtual art-related scene. Free visits are scheduled twice a week; check current visiting hours in advance.

On foot, with a guide, or on horseback

On ĂŽle-aux-Marins, a walking trail passes through different parts of the island. It was once known for its fishing and pioneer community. During the summer season, the former school, now a museum, and the church open to visitors. Include these sites in your plans and check current opening arrangements before visiting.

The Maison de la Nature et de l’Environnement in Miquelon offers guided walks and hikes. These explore the natural and cultural heritage of places throughout the archipelago. A local riding club leads horseback rides through the natural surroundings of Saint-Pierre island; these depend on the weather. The formats differ: there are guided walks and hikes on the one hand, and weather-dependent horseback rides on Saint-Pierre on the other. If you plan to take part in either activity, confirm current dates and arrangements in advance.

Ferry connections and trip planning

The season of each ferry route is important for trip planning: ferries run year-round between Fortune and Saint-Pierre, while the route between Fortune and Miquelon operates only from May to September. Additional ferry services connect Saint-Pierre with Miquelon and with Langlade, south of Miquelon Island. Check current timetables before travelling. If you are looking for a hotel for a trip that includes several islands, first decide which places and activities you want to visit, then align your travel dates with the suitable ferry connections.
