Lubrín combines a distinctive townscape with traces of its architectural and everyday history. Squares, a street lined with rows of houses with balconies, the church and a former washhouse offer different perspectives. At the same time, mountain landscapes and traditional paths shape the rural surroundings in the Levante Almeriense. You can therefore explore the town through two specific interests when planning your trip: the history of its buildings and squares, or the routes and regional themes of the surrounding area.

Squares, streets and the townscape

Plaza del Porche leads to the town centre. Plaza de Abajo is Lubrín’s central square and can be reached via the so-called Escalericas de Marta. This places an approach to the town centre alongside a central square with a named access route. Rows of houses with balconies and floral decorations define the streetscape of Calle Sotomayor. The houses are considered typical of the province’s traditional architecture. The squares and street frontage make different impressions: one offers orientation within the town, while the other highlights the distinctive design of the rows of houses.

Church and local history

The Iglesia Ntra. Sra. del Rosario dates from the 19th century, around 1880. Its architecture is eclectic; its floor plan is shaped like a Latin cross, and the church interior comprises three naves. These terms describe different aspects: the architectural style, the overall shape and the layout of the interior. The church was also among the early churches to use a material previously used mainly for industrial facilities and buildings. Its construction history is interesting both for its design and for the history of how the material was used.

The former Teatro Sotomayor was later used as a cheese factory. The change from theatre to cheese factory vividly connects cultural history with the history of how the building was used. The old washhouse was supplied by the lower spring and was very important before the houses had running water. Alongside the buildings, it brings the former water supply and everyday life into focus.

Mountain landscapes and regional themes

Lubrín is a rural municipality in the Levante Almeriense, surrounded by mountain landscapes and traditional paths that invite you to explore the area. The town is part of the Sierra de Cabrera-Bédar Special Protection Area in the Natura 2000 network. Its mountain landscapes and protected-area status offer a distinct way to explore the destination beyond the town centre. The Lubrín Tourist Office offers various routes where you can learn about the municipality’s rural agriculture, goat farming and olive oil culture. These themes broaden the focus on streets and architectural history to include the municipality’s agricultural character.

The Sendero de Las Fuentes

The Sendero de Las Fuentes de Lubrín is a 7.9-kilometre circular hiking trail with a 2.3-kilometre branch. It runs between Fuente Arriba and Fuente Abajo, passing former watermills, the Pozo de las Cabras washhouse and Lubrín’s recreational area. The different distances state the lengths of the circular trail and the branch separately. With its springs, former water use and the places mentioned, the route brings together landscape and cultural features. Check trail conditions before setting out.
