Turre brings together the mountainous landscape of the Sierra Cabrera and fertile farmland, and lies along the course of the Aguas River. If you are looking for a hotel in Turre, you can choose where to stay based on different travel interests: hiking trails and nature, archaeological history and buildings, or the golf course at the foot of the Sierra Cabrera. Local points of interest offer concrete ideas without requiring you to follow a single set itinerary.

The Sierra Cabrera and trails through the countryside

The PR-A 370 Turre–El Jalí hiking trail leads into the heart of the Sierra Cabrera. Along the route, palmetto palms and esparto grass grow alongside aromatic plants, including purple thyme and curly lavender. The vegetation varies with the seasons; if you are interested in the plants along the trail, keep these natural changes in mind when planning your trip.

The La Limera-Murtal recreation area is in a wooded part of the Sierra Cabrera within the municipality of Turre, and forms part of the Sierra de Cabrera-Bédar Special Area of Conservation. The area has tables, barbecue facilities, a spring and a large vehicle parking area. The main access route is via the A-7, the Los Giles exit and the AL-6110 road; from there, an uphill forest track leads onward. Road conditions can change. Check access before setting out.

The wider countryside around Turre also offers hiking trails and places to visit, including the Paraje de Yesos in the UmbrĂa de Sierra Cabrera. Alongside the PR-A 370, there are other nature-focused options to consider when planning your trip, while the precise route is a separate matter.

Archaeology and buildings in Turre

Gatas in Turre offers a glimpse into different periods of settlement history. The site has seven settlement phases, from the first Chalcolithic settlement to an Andalusi settlement. These should be distinguished from the ten Bronze Age construction phases, which encompass the Argaric and post-Argaric settlements of Gatas. The numbers therefore describe different things: the sequence of settlement phases in one case, and the construction phases within the Bronze Age settlements in the other.

Another architectural point of interest is the rebuilt Iglesia Parroquial de la PurĂsima. The provincial architect MartĂn BaldĂł designed the church; it was completed in 1888. The interior is divided into three naves with barrel vaults. The side aisles are lower than the central nave. The church can therefore be explored both in terms of when it was built and how its interior is laid out.

The Fuente Morisca, also known as the Fuente de Turre, has been mentioned in documents since 1495. Its historic features include five spouts, a basin, separate channels for clean and wastewater, a watering trough and a washing area. The spring is also associated with accounts of washing clothes, bathing, secret meetings and children’s games. The Fuente thus brings together its architectural layout and memories of everyday community life.

Golf and local cuisine

Club de Golf Cortijo Grande is in the municipality of Turre, at the foot of the Sierra Cabrera. The course is mostly flat and has nine holes; lemon, orange and olive trees shape its landscaping. If golf is a factor in choosing your destination, the course’s size and setting offer useful points of reference. Check the course details again before booking.

Local cuisine is another part of Turre’s appeal. A 2014 report describes the Jornadas Gastronómicas de Cocina de Matanza de Sierra Cabrera as an event intended to promote the municipality’s gastronomy and raise awareness of its natural heritage. This historical context complements the town’s nature and culture themes.
