Discover Fuente Palmera through its buildings, flamenco and routes through the agricultural landscape. The townscape combines historic architecture and a living cultural heritage with routes and natural areas that reveal different sides of the surrounding area.

Plaza Real and Historic Buildings

Plaza Real is the main square of Fuente Palmera. It is home to the Iglesia de la Purísima Concepción, the town hall and the Pósito. As the main square, it provides a clear landmark for finding your way around town. The three buildings represent different facets of the townscape: ecclesiastical architecture, the town hall and a building whose history dates back to the 18th century.

The Pósito de Fuente Palmera is listed as a general heritage asset in the Andalusian Historical Heritage Catalogue; its designation was officially recorded in 2016. The building is dated to the period between 1767 and 1769, although its exact construction date is unknown. Its striking Baroque portal is considered one of the most representative examples of civil architecture in the province of Córdoba.

Above the main entrance to the Iglesia de la Purísima Concepción, the coat of arms of Charles III points to the church’s founding period. Two bell towers flank the building, joined by a continuous balcony with a wrought-iron railing. The colonial houses are also among Fuente Palmera’s notable cultural and monumental attractions.

Flamenco and Cultural Events

Parque del Flamenco is an open-air museum and interpretation centre that introduces visitors to singing, dance and toque (flamenco guitar playing). Visitors can scan QR codes to access recordings of artists and their biographies. The park’s streets and avenues are also named after flamenco figures. Here, you can discover the different disciplines, stories about the artists and their names in the public space.

The Fuente Palmera de Boda fair began in 2005 and was held in October. Its programme included exhibitions from the wedding sector, fashion shows, training sessions, demonstrations and concerts. Since 2017, it has also included the Certamen de Jóvenes Diseñadores de Fuente Palmera de Boda competition. Weddings therefore feature not only in the fair’s name, but also in the programme items listed.

Natural Areas and Routes

The Paraje de Los Arroyones natural area can be reached at kilometre 6 of the CP-187 road from Fuente Palmera to Posadas. Its landscape includes stands of holm oaks, pine trees and the Arroyo de Los Picachos stream. The area is used for leisure and recreation, environmental education, school reforestation activities and sport. It is also associated with the Romería de San Isidro Labrador and the Fuente Palmera MTB Rally.

The Ruta del Molino de San Roque follows local roads between farms through a patchwork agricultural landscape towards the fertile floodplains of the Guadalquivir. Molino San Roque is a 19th-century mill. It is distinguished by two large parallel towers, an unusual feature in the surrounding area. For the official approach to this route from Córdoba, follow the A-4, A-445 and A-440. The starting sign is about 400 metres past the roundabout at the entrance to Fuente Palmera. Check access conditions locally again before setting off.

You can explore the Rutas de las Fuentes Carolinas on foot, on horseback, by bicycle or by car. They have extensive signage and explanatory panels. The landscape features described include the Arroyo de La Plata Chica stream and a small gallery woodland with elm trees. The different ways of getting around and the explanatory panels give these routes a distinctive character among the routes offered in Fuente Palmera.

A Glimpse of Town Life

The first section of Calle Portales, reserved for pedestrians, is lined with numerous shops, most of them in the textile and wedding sectors. The range of businesses may change. Together with the Fuente Palmera de Boda fair, this street reflects the town’s connection to the wedding sector in two different ways: through the fair programme and the described retail scene.
