Venta del Charco: Nature and Feria
Accommodation in Venta del Charco
Venta del Charco offers several distinct starting points for planning a trip: the landscapes along its hiking trails, the Parroquia Nuestra Señora del Carmen, and the Feria. If you are weighing nature against culture, you can explore the trails by their different vegetation and plan your travel dates around the recurring festival period.
Hiking Trails and Nature
The Aldea del Cerezo–Venta del Charco hiking trail passes through extensive dehesas and the only stand of Pyrenean oaks in the province of Córdoba. It also crosses several livestock droving routes. The trail is also connected to the area designated as a ZEC and ZEPA, Sierra de Cardeña y Montoro.
The Camino de Vuelcacarretas is signposted as a visitor trail in the Parque Natural Sierra de Cardeña y Montoro. It passes through dense forests of holm oaks and cork oaks, as well as Mediterranean scrubland. The two routes offer different landscape highlights: the Aldea del Cerezo–Venta del Charco hiking trail focuses on dehesas and Pyrenean oaks, while the Camino de Vuelcacarretas features holm oak and cork oak woodland and scrubland.
Wildlife that can be observed in the Parque Natural Sierra de Cardeña y Montoro includes Iberian lynxes, Spanish imperial eagles, and black kites. Individual sightings are not guaranteed. The status of the Aldea del Cerezo–Venta del Charco trail is also important for planning your hike: as of April 29, 2026, it was closed to the public for maintenance work. Check its current status before you travel.
Visitor Center and Landscape
The Venta Nueva visitor center offers reception, visitor information, and a bar-cafeteria. As facilities may change, check the current availability of these services before your visit. An exhibition at the center describes the Mediterranean landscape of the Sierra de Cardeña y Montoro, including dehesas, Mediterranean scrubland, and pine forests.
Church and Architecture
The Parroquia Nuestra Señora del Carmen was built between April and September 1964. It is a modern 1960s building with a rectangular façade, a triangular pediment, and an attached bell tower. The pediment is the triangular gable at the top of the façade; together with the tower, it complements the rectangular façade with other clearly recognizable architectural features. The church can therefore be identified by both its construction date and its distinctive exterior design.
Feria de Venta del Charco
The Feria de Venta del Charco takes place every year between late July and early August in honor of the patron saint, Nuestra Señora del Carmen. Check the specific dates for the relevant edition when planning your trip. The 2026 program included evening dances, games for children and young people, food competitions featuring local products, performances by folk and popular music groups, and communal meals. Future programs may differ.
