Los Tablones: Mountain Biking, Forest and Festive Traditions
Accommodation in Los Tablones
Los Tablones brings together a mountain bike route, a landscape shaped by forests and the Barranco de los Lagos, and religious festive traditions. This offers three different ways to plan a trip: cycling, nature and a stay linked to a festival.
A landscape between the ravine and distant views
The Barranco de los Lagos runs along the eastern edge of the settlement and is an important natural feature that shapes Los Tablones. The village is largely surrounded by forest areas that have been little altered by human activity. From Los Tablones, the view extends north across mountainous areas and south to the coastal landscape. The ravine is a locally situated point of reference, while the views to the north and south describe the wider landscape. In this way, the edge of the settlement, the wooded surroundings and the distant views can be understood as different scales of the landscape.
Mountain bike route through Los Tablones
La Ruta de los Tablones is a mountain bike route that passes through Los Tablones. It has a cumulative ascent of 555 metres. This cumulative figure describes the total elevation gained, not the route length. This distinction is useful when planning: the figure indicates the elevation profile, not the distance travelled.
Romería and festive traditions
The patron saint festivals of Los Tablones take place every year on the first weekend of September. They honour San Antonio de Padua and Nuestra Señora la Inmaculada Concepción. The Romería de Los Tablones leads to the Ermita de San Antonio de Padua, the chapel of the patron saint of Los Tablones; its route is just over three kilometres long. The Romería also includes the traditional Paella popular as a communal part of the festival. The Belén Viviente is a Christmas tradition that has been staged in a natural setting near Los Tablones. The elevation gain on the mountain bike route and the kilometres of the Romería route describe different measurements and activities, so they cannot be directly compared.
Getting there and planning your trip
Los Tablones is connected by two routes: the Antiguo Camino de los Tablones, which starts in Las Ventillas and is no longer in use, and the Camino de Conservación de la Cota 200. As road conditions can change, check the current situation before travelling. If you are planning to visit for a festival, also check the specific festival dates. When looking for a hotel in Los Tablones, you can use the reason for your trip as your first point of reference: for the patron saint festivals, the date matters; for a cycling-focused stay, consider the mountain bike route. Planning by calendar and choosing by activity are therefore two different approaches.
