When looking for a hotel in Segura De La Sierra, it helps to have a clear idea of your trip: would you like to focus on the history of the castle and town, vibrant culture, or the natural surroundings? The town lies in the heart of the Sierra de Segura, which forms part of the Parque Natural de las Sierras de Cazorla, Segura y Las Villas. Valleys, karst landscapes, gorges, mountains and plateaus shape the scenery.

Castle and buildings

From the 13th to the 15th century, the fortress of Segura de la Sierra played a central role in the formation of an important territorial and jurisdictional unit in Castile. Castillo de Segura and its historic settlement are designated as a Paisaje Pintoresco and Conjunto Histórico-Artístico. The Torre del Homenaje gives a striking sense of the building’s scale: it is 18.43 metres high, has three floors and a terrace.

Numerous sections of the walls can be seen in the lower part of the town, as well as along the approaches from Puerta Nueva to the Castillo. Others are found on the walls descending from the Castillo to the bullring and along the outer enclosure of the Alcazaba. The Puerta Catena, of Arab origin, and the town walls were jointly designated as a Bien de Interés Cultural in 1985. The Fuente Imperial was built in 1517 opposite the church. It embodies the transition from Gothic to Renaissance and bears the coat of arms of Charles V on a winged double-headed eagle.

Built between 1583 and 1593, the Iglesia de los Jesuitas now serves as a venue for events and exhibitions, hosting a variety of activities. The parish church houses a 14th-century Gothic alabaster sculpture of the Virgen de la Peña with the Child.

Culture and events

Bolos Serranos is a lively traditional game, passed down from generation to generation and particularly associated with Segura de la Sierra. It is played in the Valle and Alta montaña styles.

Música en Segura is an established festival. The festival’s 2026 presentation reports almost 200 concerts and more than 80,000 visitors over the preceding twelve years. The Música en Segura 2026 programme included concerts at the Iglesia de los Jesuitas, as well as the classic Concierto del Amanecer and Excursión Musical formats. These examples refer to the 2026 edition; the programme may vary from year to year.
