Discover Camas
Accommodation in Camas
In Camas, two distinctly different natural areas can be identified: the Vega del Guadalquivir and the Altiplanicie del Aljarafe. The area also offers cultural history, routes and local traditions. When looking for a hotel in Camas, you can consider whether you would like to include landscapes, historical themes, a route or a connection with Seville in your stay.
Landscapes and Views of Seville
The Mirador del Cerro de Santa BrĂgida offers views of Seville. At 110 metres high, it is the highest viewpoint in the area. It can be reached via a path from the JardĂn de Atalaya neighbourhood. The path from JardĂn de Atalaya leads to the viewpoint, with views of Seville.
The two natural areas give the landscape of Camas distinct characteristics. The viewpoint adds views of Seville to this perspective. If you are planning your stay around landscapes and views, you can take these different aspects into account when planning your day.
Cultural History in Buildings and Archaeological Sites
Churches and Architectural Features
The present-day Iglesia Parroquial de Nuestra Señora de Gracia was built on the remains of two churches dating from the 16th and 17th centuries. Its main altar is Neoclassical, and it also houses sculptures and paintings from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. This brings together the history of an older building and artworks from several centuries in a single structure.
The Ermita de Nuestra Señora de GuĂa has a different architectural style: the Almohad chapel has a square floor plan and an octagonal dome, complemented by arcades and columns. The tower at the Cortijo de Gambogaz has a Gothic-MudĂ©jar style. These different forms provide several specific points of reference for the architectural history of Camas, without reducing the buildings to the same period or design.
El Carambolo and Local Landmarks
El Carambolo is also associated with several historical themes. Archaeological excavations in the early 21st century identified an important religious complex there with five construction phases. The Treasure of El Carambolo was discovered in 1958, after workers alerted others to the find while the facilities of the Tiro de PichĂłn were being expanded. The excavations and the discovery of the treasure are distinct historical points of reference.
Plaza de la Cruz is considered one of the oldest squares in Camas. The Monumento al Toreo is a bullfighting monument by the Sevillian artist Jaime Gil Arévalo. Along with the churches and archaeological sites, it illustrates the range of architectural forms and landmarks that you can take into account when exploring the town’s history.
Routes, Cycling Connections and Getting There
Stage 1 of the Camino a Santiago: VĂa Plata passes through the centre of Camas, close to the Ayuntamiento and the Iglesia de Santa MarĂa de Gracia. This route runs through the centre; the Camino Natural VĂa Verde de Itálica, by contrast, is a route just under three kilometres long in the area around Seville in the direction of Camas. These descriptions refer to different routes and their respective locations.
For cyclists, the VĂa Ciclista Camas-Sevilla connects the Aljarafe with Seville’s urban cycle network at two points on Isla de La Cartuja: Torre Triana and Estadio OlĂmpico. Future infrastructure works may change connections, so check the current route before setting out.
Camas can be reached from Seville by CercanĂas line C5 and bus line M-107 from EstaciĂłn Plaza de Armas. Check the timetables for your travel date if you are planning your journey around them.
Traditions, Cuisine and Activities
The Feria de Camas takes place in September in honour of the Virgen de los Dolores. The exact dates may vary from year to year, so if you are planning a stay around the fair, it is worth checking the dates for that year.
At the bodegas in La Pañoleta, you can try braised bull’s tongue, considered a typical dish of Camas. As individual establishments and availability may change, check in advance whether it is being served.
The Instalaciones Deportivas de Tiro OlĂmpico offer activities and competitions in sport shooting and Olympic shooting. Facilities include an indoor airgun range and 25- and 50-metre shooting lanes. Before visiting, check the participation requirements and the current status of the facilities. This makes it possible to consider culture, routes, local cuisine and sporting activities as different focuses for your stay.
