Cañada del Rabadán brings together local history, a mill route and El Villar’s Romería tradition. When looking for hotels in Cañada De Rabadán, there are three specific points of interest: the Capilla de Santiago Apóstol, the Rutas de los Molinos and the tradition in Los Arroyones.

Local history and getting around

The settlement developed along a livestock drovers’ road. Cañada del Rabadán was established in the early 19th century in connection with the process of enlightened colonisation initiated by Carlos III. Avenida de Andalucía is a useful landmark for finding your way around: it runs through the settlement from one end to the other and continues towards El Villar and Écija. From Fuente Palmera, you can reach Cañada del Rabadán via the CP-246; the distance is 6 km. Check road conditions before setting off.

Capilla de Santiago Apóstol

Inside the Capilla de Santiago Apóstol is a green-and-gold Baroque altarpiece from the Capilla de San Zoilo de Córdoba, dating to the early 18th century. An altarpiece is an altar screen; here, it should be distinguished as a separate furnishing from the main altar, which is made of limestone. The main altar is made of light-coloured limestone from a former cortijo owned by the Marqueses de Santaella. An old wrought-iron cross from the Seminario Santa María de los Ángeles is on the façade. The location is also a useful landmark: Parque de la Constitución is on Avenida de Andalucía, just a few metres from the chapel.

Mill route and rural landscape

The second route of the Rutas de los Molinos links mills between Cañada del Rabadán, El Villar, La Ventilla and Fuente Palmera and is about 17 km long. Along the way, walkers encounter a more rugged rural landscape of rain-fed and irrigated crops, extensive olive groves and old farm huts; the difficulty level is low. Molino El Puntal is on the route that passes through Cañada del Rabadán. The mill still has its mill beam and millstones. If you are planning to do the route, check the signposting and trail conditions locally.

Romería and Los Arroyones

Los Arroyones is the site of El Villar’s annual Romería de San Isidro. The nearby natural area is characterised by groves of holm oaks and pines, and the Arroyo de Los Picachos flows through it. In 2003, the idea emerged to establish a brotherhood of romeros from Cañada del Rabadán, affiliated with the brotherhood of San Isidro de El Villar, and to walk to the Los Arroyones area. The first walk of the romeros there took place in May 2003, with 32 families and a total of 70 romeros taking part.
