Nature observation, cycling and the calendar of festivals give a stay in La Lantejuela a variety of focal points. Laguna del Gobierno is a specific point of reference for the lagoon landscape, while processions and festivals mark cultural dates. You can plan your stay around your own interests and decide how to balance nature, a cycling trip and local festivities.

The lagoon and its geographical setting

Laguna del Gobierno lies about 800 metres from the town centre and can be reached via a path. It contains water all year round and is suited to birdwatching tourism. This makes it a specific nature attraction for travellers who want to include nature observation in their stay.

The Reserva Natural Complejo Endorreico La Lantejuela lies less than three kilometres from La Lantejuela. It is located entirely within the municipality of Osuna. The short distance from the town and the municipal boundaries describe two different geographical points of reference.

Cycling route and time of year

The Ruta de las Lagunas is a cycling route that starts and ends at the municipal sports centre and visits the endorheic complex of Lantejuela. Spring is recommended for the route because the paths are then easier to navigate after the winter rains. When planning, both the specified starting and finishing point and the condition of the paths after winter are relevant.

Festivals throughout the year

The Romería de la Virgen del Carmen takes place on the last weekend in May. The pilgrimage goes from the Iglesia Purísima Concepción to the Ermita del Carmen on the nearby Finca de Los Matones. Around 16 July, the Velá de Nuestra Señora del Carmen includes a procession through the streets of La Lantejuela. The two dates also differ in form: in May, the pilgrimage goes from the church to the chapel; in July, the procession passes through the town.

Semana Santa includes processions every year on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, accompanied by Nazarenos, women wearing mantillas and processional marches. The Feria y Fiestas Patronales takes place around the feast of the Virgen del Rosario; its programme includes flamenco, copla and other folk performances. Another festival programme is held every year in February, with parades, performances, competitions and the traditional Chorizada.

Church and visiting times

The Iglesia Parroquial de la Purísima Concepción is La Lantejuela’s most significant monumental building. It can be visited during service times. Check these times before your visit if you want to see the inside of the church. Together with the processions that depart from this church or pass through the town, it is a specific cultural point of reference for planning your trip.
