Explore Palomares Del Rio for your trip through a range of interests: historic architecture, the Ruta del Agua and a food event. Its buildings range from an Almohad bathhouse and haciendas with former working areas to a Mudéjar church tower. Consider whether historic buildings, nature or both will shape your stay; the local details below offer specific points to help you decide.

Baños Árabes and historic architecture

The Baños Árabes date from the Almohad period and are dated to the 12th to 13th centuries. They are protected as a Bien de Interés Cultural and are unique among rural sites in the province of Seville. The complex includes a garden with Hispano-Muslim design. Channels connect fountains decorated with colorful tiles. The site therefore comprises both the bathhouse architecture and a garden area—two distinct aspects to consider when exploring this archaeological ensemble.

The Hacienda Casa Alegre dates from the 16th century and has preserved almost all of its areas: the manor courtyard, the working courtyard, the olive press and the residence. This range brings together different parts of a hacienda in one place. By contrast, only a 16th-century mill building remains today at the Hacienda de Córdoba. The comparison shows a difference in what has been preserved: almost all areas remain at Casa Alegre, while at Córdoba only the mill building survives.

Several other haciendas date from the 18th century and each offer different architectural points of interest. The olive press at the Hacienda Ulloa retains its original wooden beams and a press stone. At the Hacienda Santa María, the building used to produce olive oil and its counterweight tower are well preserved. The Hacienda El Molino also has a counterweight tower, formerly used to produce olive oil. At Ulloa, the focus is on specific features of the mill, while the two towers at Santa María and El Molino offer a point of comparison for this type of structure.

The towers also differ in origin and design. The tower of the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Estrella is of Mudéjar origin; its first level features seven horseshoe and multi-lobed arches. The tower of the Hacienda San Rafael, by contrast, dates from the early 20th century. It is attributed to the Sevillian architect Aníbal González and is considered an example of Andalusian regionalism. In Palomares Del Rio, you can therefore encounter both medieval-influenced architectural features and a much later architectural style.

Ruta del Agua and culinary highlights

A description published on February 7, 2025, classifies the Ruta del Agua as an easy route. Along the route, you can see native birds and riparian vegetation. This focus differs from that of the individual buildings: here, the emphasis is on a route and its natural features. This lets you include an interest in landscapes and nature alongside architectural themes when planning your trip.

One culinary highlight is the III. Ruta de la Tapa Mozárabe. From April 30 to May 10, it featured tapas, desserts and cocktails inspired by the historic gastronomy of Palomares. This specific event offering complements the architectural and nature themes with a connection to local food culture.
