Perarrúa offers a variety of reasons to explore the area: marked hiking trails, a mountain biking route to Castillo del Mon and Caballera, and Castillo de Perarrúa and the Romanesque bridge. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Perarrúa, these distinctions can help you plan the focus of your trip. You can make a circular hike, a route connecting the inhabited parts of the municipality, a mountain bike tour, or the history of the castle and bridge the main focus. Which route you choose depends on which of these aspects you would like to discover.

Hikes and Tours

The Perarrúa–San Marcos–Besiáns circular hike starts in Perarrúa and follows the PR HU-49 waymarks. It is considered a route without any major difficulties. Its circular layout and waymarking give you two specific features that distinguish this tour from the other routes mentioned.

The Besiáns–La Vila–Casa Sesa–Perarrúa hiking route connects the two inhabited parts of the municipality of Perarrúa. You can start in Besiáns or Perarrúa; the route is considered suitable for families. Unlike the circular trail, its focus is on connecting the two inhabited parts of the municipality.

For a mountain bike tour, the Perarrúa–Castillo del Mon–Caballera BTT route initially follows a paved road from Perarrúa to Castillo del Mon. It then continues along a well-maintained unpaved track to the uninhabited settlement of Caballera. The transition from paved road to track and the named destination give this tour a different profile from the hiking routes. Caballera is the endpoint, not an inhabited part of the municipality.

Route 6 Caballera offers a viewpoint along an ascent, with panoramic views over the Ésera Valley and the surrounding mountains. If you want to make the view the focus, bear in mind that visibility depends on the conditions at the time.

Different features are useful for comparing the tours: the Perarrúa–San Marcos–Besiáns loop follows the PR HU-49; the family-friendly route between the inhabited parts of the municipality has two possible starting points. The BTT route switches from paved road to track, while Route 6 Caballera highlights the viewpoint along the ascent.

Castle and Historic Bridge

Castillo de Perarrúa is protected in Aragón as a Bien de Interés Cultural. It rises on a rocky outcrop above the village, on the right bank of the Ésera River, and is visible from several kilometres away. Its elevated position and far-reaching views make the castle a prominent feature of the landscape. For visitors interested in historic buildings, it combines a clearly designated protection status with a distinctive location.

The Puente románico de Perarrúa offers a different historical perspective. Until a new bridge was built alongside it, it was the old and only access to the village. The eastern arches are dated to the 12th, 13th or 14th century; the western arch dates from the 18th century. The arches therefore differ both in their position on the bridge and in their dating.
