Camarena de la Sierra offers several distinct points of interest for planning a trip: the parish church of San Mateo, the springs and Amanaderos waterfall, and various routes. If you are looking for a hotel, you can first consider whether you are more interested in architectural heritage, natural landscapes, hiking or a seasonal winter theme. This selection helps you shape your stay around a specific travel purpose.

San Mateo: Architecture and Features

The single-nave parish church of San Mateo is the most important building in Camarena de la Sierra. The year 1677 is inscribed on its west wall. Its Baroque interior features sgraffito decoration with angel and plant motifs. The church thus brings together several architectural features: “single-nave” describes the layout of the church interior, “Baroque” its style, and the sgraffito its decorative wall treatment. Those interested in architectural heritage will find both a specific building form and named motifs in the interior.

Springs and Waterfall

Numerous springs rise in the municipality of Camarena de la Sierra. This is why the village is known as “pueblo de las cien fuentes,” the village of a hundred springs. The nickname highlights the abundance of springs as a local feature. Another natural attraction is the Amanaderos waterfall in the gorge of the same name; it is one of Camarena de la Sierra’s highlighted sights. The springs represent a landscape feature associated with the municipality, while the waterfall is a specific named destination. You can therefore consider the area’s abundance of water and a particular natural landmark as distinct interests for your trip.

Hiking Trails and Stages

When planning your routes, it is useful to distinguish the stages by their individual sections. On GR-10 Stage 03, the final section follows the Río Camarena river path to the village. GR-8 Stage 16 reaches the town of Camarena de la Sierra by road after descending at Fuente de Mosén José. The two descriptions therefore refer to different approaches: one via the river path, the other following a descent and then a road. For your planning, it is helpful to focus on the specific stage and its described access route.

The PR-TE 123–GR 10 connection is signposted in both directions. As signage on site may change, check the information before your hike. On the GR 10, the Río Camarena river path leads to the Amanaderos de Riodeva. From Molino Montereta, the PR-TE 123 runs through the Riodeva or Los Ramos valley to the Ermita de San Pablo at an altitude of 1,750 metres. The route described also includes sections beyond the village area. The village approaches, the signposted connection and the onward route sections are therefore distinct reference points for planning your hike.

Seasonal Winter Theme

A winter theme is also among the options in Camarena de la Sierra. The first area can be reached from the Telesilla de Camarena via the Amanaderos ski run. Lift and ski-run regulations may change seasonally, so check them before making plans. For your travel decision, this means that hiking routes and winter lift and ski-run options cannot be assessed solely by the same criteria. If you are visiting in winter, take particular account of the seasonal regulations.

When looking for a hotel in Camarena de la Sierra, you can use the purpose of your trip as a starting point: San Mateo represents architectural heritage, the springs and Amanaderos offer different natural attractions, the GR stages provide specific hiking routes, and the lift is a seasonal winter option. First choose the focus that matters for your trip, then include the relevant place or route names in your plans.
