Nogueruelas: Cultural Heritage and Hiking Trails
Accommodation in Nogueruelas
Nogueruelas combines the town’s architectural history with a variety of routes and viewpoints. If you’re looking for a hotel in Nogueruelas, these features can help you choose a destination that matches your interests. The architecture ranges from the 16th-century town hall to surviving Gothic elements in the Church of La Asunción; the routes differ in length, format, and the times listed for each one.
Culture and Architectural History
Nogueruelas Town Hall is an interesting 16th-century building. Its architectural features include an arcade of segmental arches and a continuous balcony. A segmental arch is an arch that spans less than a semicircle. The arcade can therefore be described not only by its date, but also by its distinctive arch shape.
The Church of La Asunción reflects a different layering of periods. Despite significant later alterations, particularly in the 16th and 17th centuries, some Gothic elements from the 14th century remain. Both details are relevant: the Gothic elements point to an earlier construction phase, while the later alterations are also part of the building’s history.
The Santa Bárbara hermitage stands above the town center. It offers views of the Sierra de Gúdar. A small ethnological museum adds a paleontological dimension to the cultural attractions: it contains several examples from the surrounding area, where numerous fossils have been found. Architectural history, the hermitage, and the area’s fossils therefore appeal to different interests.
Routes, Springs, and Viewpoints
The PRTE-7, which passes through Nogueruelas, is 38.5 kilometers long and takes approximately 11 hours and 20 minutes. The PRTE-23 is a 26-kilometer hiking route with an approximate duration of 6 hours and 30 minutes. The PRTE-7 is therefore the longer of the two in both distance and estimated time. The duration estimates provide a comparison of the time involved, but remain approximate.
The PRTE-22 is described differently: it is a short circular route that starts in the southwest of Nogueruelas. Its circular format, short distance, and starting location offer different points of comparison from the lengths and approximate times given for the PRTE-7 and PRTE-23. The routes can thus be distinguished by their respective described features without attributing the same format or duration to them.
The PRTE-24 leads to the Manaderas del Valle de Azoo and numerous clear springs. Two other specific landmarks are viewpoints at stated elevations: La Hoya is at 1,307 meters, and the viewpoint at Cabezo de las Cruces is at 1,710 meters. The difference between the two elevations is 403 meters. This makes it possible to compare the viewpoints directly by altitude.
Nogueruelas also has a designated camping area. Together with the buildings, routes, and viewpoints, these features offer different reference points for planning your trip.
