Colonia Sant Jordi offers different points of interest to consider when choosing a destination and hotel: Playa Des Port in the tourist and residential centre, the Salinetes–Colònia de Sant Jordi coastal route, and a festival in April. The history of the harbour beside the beach and views of the Cabrera Archipelago are additional features. This makes it possible to view the town through a range of interests: the beach, a specific route, a cultural event or learning about Cabrera. When planning your trip, it is worth first deciding which of these priorities will determine your travel dates and choice of hotel.

Playa Des Port and nearby beaches

Playa Des Port is about 150 metres long and is located in the tourist and residential centre of Colònia de Sant Jordi. It is busy in summer and has sun lounger and parasol rental, showers, a lifeguard and restaurants with a varied selection of food. These facilities may vary. Nearby, Es Carbó is considered the unspoilt sandy beach most visited by locals and visitors to the town. You can also distinguish between the beaches by location: Playa Des Port is in the tourist and residential centre, while Es Carbó is nearby.

Salinetes–Colònia de Sant Jordi coastal route

The nearly circular Salinetes–Colònia de Sant Jordi coastal route starts on streets in Colònia de Sant Jordi that border the salt ponds of the Salinas de s’Avall. It is 4,100 metres long, runs over flat terrain and is well suited to families. The route’s shape, length and terrain describe different aspects: its nearly circular course, the distance covered and the nature of the ground. The distance helps you gauge the extent of the route; its suitability for families refers to this route. If you would like to include a specific route in your plans alongside the beach, this offers a distinct activity to consider.

Harbour history and the Cabrera Archipelago

The harbour beside Playa Des Port was used by the Phoenicians and Romans, and shipwrecks have been found on the seabed in the surrounding area. This maritime past adds a historical perspective to the beach. The Cabrera Archipelago can be seen on the horizon from Playa Des Port. The Ses Salines Visitor Centre is in Colònia de Sant Jordi and allows you to learn about the archipelago without travelling there. There are therefore two different ways to experience Cabrera: the view from the beach and learning about the archipelago at the visitor centre.

April festival and summer beach

Every year in April, Colònia de Sant Jordi celebrates a festival in honour of its patron saint, Sant Jordi, for more than a week. The programme includes exhibitions, concerts, markets with traditional products, and drawing and photography competitions. If you are planning to travel for the festival, you can check the event dates before your trip. The festival is an annual event in April; in summer, Playa Des Port is busy. This gives you a clear distinction when choosing your travel dates: the festival programme in April or the summer beach scene.
