Get to know Sant Climent through its village character, architectural history and recurring cultural events. The village layout, established in 1817, was developed around the church; a spacious square lies in front of the church. The church and square thus give the village a clearly defined centre. As you plan your trip, consider whether church architecture, historic sites or festive traditions should be the focus.

Church and Local History

The present-day church of Sant Climent is a neo-Gothic building with three naves, separated by columns with lobed cross-sections. Neo-Gothic describes the style; the three naves refer to the building’s layout. A chapel built in honour of Sant Climent gave the village its name. Both the church’s present-day architecture and the story behind its name lead to distinct points in the village’s history.

Cemetery: History and Visiting Hours

Sant Climent’s cemetery was inaugurated on 31 March 1902. Its façade, completed in 1905, was designed by municipal architect Francesc Femenías. The inauguration and façade design mark different dates in the cemetery’s history.

According to municipal cemetery regulations, the cemetery is open to the public daily: from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. in winter, and from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. in summer. The municipality may adjust the opening hours; check the times before your visit.

Festive Traditions

The patron saint celebrations of Sant Climent take place every year, with the main festivities held in August. They include a “Colcada” through the village streets, “Completes” in the church of Sant Climent, followed by a traditional “Jaleo” in the square. If you want to plan your trip around these celebrations, check the exact dates and programme in advance.

During Sant Climent’s traditional celebrations, the animals are blessed in Es Pla de Sant Climent on the 17th, after Mass and the procession. A recurring torrada in Sant Climent features the appearance of a curious pair of demons. These customs offer different points of interest if you are interested in local festive culture.
