Santo Tomas: Discover beaches and coastal paths
Accommodation in Santo Tomas
When choosing a hotel destination in Santo Tomas, it is worth looking at the coast and the places within the municipality of Es Migjorn Gran. Sant TomĂ s beach, other sandy beaches and a coastal route offer a variety of scenic impressions; a cave and a Talayotic settlement add natural and cultural history to the picture. This allows you to plan your trip around beaches, coastal scenery or archaeological interest.
Sant TomĂ s beach: facilities and use
At Sant TomĂ s beach, you can rent parasols and sun loungers; there is also a watersports equipment rental service, showers, foot-washing stations, rubbish bins, a cleaning service and a telephone. Some facilities may vary by season. At the end of the beach, a small jetty extends into the water and offers views of the coast. The jetty may be affected by maintenance work; check the current situation before your visit.
Naturism is possible in one section of the beach. As regulations on beach use can change, check the current rules before your visit if this is of interest.
Binigaus, Atalis and the coastal route
Binigaus beach is easily reached from the Sant TomĂ s resort. It has a sandy beach about 900 metres long, with vegetation extending to the shoreline. Access conditions may change as part of coastal management; check them before your visit.
Atalis beach is a small sandy beach, about 30 metres long, at the beginning of Son Bou beach. An approximately 1,250-metre coastal path leads there from Sant TomĂ s beach; path conditions may change. The measurements describe different things: about 30 metres refers to the sandy beach at Atalis, while approximately 1,250 metres refers to the coastal stretch from Sant TomĂ s. Compared with the other beaches, Atalis is therefore considerably smaller than Binigaus.
The Sant Tomà s–Son Bou route offers another perspective. It follows a low, almost flat coastline and reaches dune vegetation at Sant Tomà s, Talis and Son Bou. It also crosses the bottom of the Barranc de Sa Vall, offering a glimpse of the lush vegetation typical of the Prat de Son Bou wetlands. Wetland conditions vary by season.
A cave and a Talayotic settlement in the municipality
In the wider area around Sant TomĂ s, the karst cave Cova des Coloms lies in the Barranc de Binigaus, within the municipality of Es Migjorn Gran. It was formed by underground watercourses eroding the limestone. For travellers interested in geology, the formation of a cave offers a subject of interest alongside the coastal landscape.
The monumental Talayotic settlement of Sant AgustĂ is also located in the municipality of Es Migjorn Gran. The complex comprises two talayots, up to eight Talayotic houses and seven structures with elements resembling Taula enclosures. This resemblance is the precise point of reference for the seven structures; they are not all categorised as Taula enclosures. The different architectural elements give visitors interested in archaeological architecture several aspects to consider when interpreting the site.
