Explore Traslaviña during your stay through both its routes and the town’s buildings. For planning, two routes have specific details available on distance and approximate duration. They also offer different experiences along the way: one route passes through open and shaded sections, while the other is a loop. The railway station and the starting point of the Vía Verde Montes de Hierro also provide useful reference points for planning your trip.

Routes and Vía Verde

The ENK11 Artzentales: Traslaviña-Amalurra loop is 3.92 kilometres long. It has 94 metres of ascent and 94 metres of descent, and takes approximately 59 minutes. It passes through part of the Traslaviña area and via Laiseka. The route can therefore be assessed using several details: alongside its length, the elevation figures indicate the stated ups and downs, while the approximate duration helps with time planning.

The linear ENK12 Artzentzales: Traslaviña-Vía Verde-Geltokia route is 2.45 kilometres long and takes approximately 37 minutes. Its course includes alternating open and shaded sections; in places, it follows the Vía Verde Montes de Hierro. The route name and landscape details offer a different point of reference from the ENK11 loop: here, in addition to its shorter stated distance, the route is characterised by the alternation between open and shaded stretches and the partial use of the Vía Verde.

The stated distances and times are useful for a quick comparison of the two routes: the ENK12 is shorter than the ENK11 by both measures. The ENK11 also has stated ascent and descent figures; no corresponding elevation figures are provided here for the ENK12. The duration figures are approximate, and route conditions can change. The Vía Verde Montes de Hierro starts at kilometre 0, opposite the station, at the Traslaviña stop (Artzentales). This starting point is a separate reference for planning a trip on the Vía Verde; only partial use of its course is specified for the ENK12.

Traslaviña Railway Station

Traslaviña railway station is on the Bilbao–Santander line. As of 28 August 2026, it is a RENFE station; it was formerly a FEVE station. This distinguishes its current affiliation from its former designation. Since railway service information can change, check current connections before travelling. The station is also a separate point of reference from the Vía Verde’s kilometre-0 starting point, which is opposite the station at the stop.

Buildings in the Town

The Torre de Traslaviña was built in the 16th century and is an example of Gothic-Renaissance military and residential architecture. The description combines an architectural classification with two characteristics of the building: its military and residential functions. Those interested in architectural history can thus discover the town from a different perspective than through route distances. The Church of Santa María offers another distinct feature: it is Gothic in style and has a fortress-like appearance.

The Palacio de Orcasitas is located near the church. It is one of the old houses of interest preserved in Traslaviña. Taken together, the three buildings represent different aspects of the townscape: the Torre, built in the 16th century and shaped by its military and residential architecture; the Gothic church with its fortress-like appearance; and the nearby Palacio, a preserved old house. A visit to the town can therefore focus on architecture and architectural history as well as on the routes.

Planning Your Stay

When deciding which aspects of Traslaviña interest you most, concrete differences are more helpful than general expectations: for route planning, compare the approximate times and distances, and also take the stated elevation figures for the ENK11 into account. If you are more interested in the townscape, you can focus on the Torre, the Church of Santa María and the nearby Palacio de Orcasitas. The railway line and the Vía Verde starting point are additional practical reference points, without indicating that you should choose a particular route. If you are looking for a hotel in Traslaviña, compare specific offers based on your planned stay and check the details provided for each hotel.
