Carranza Valley brings together underground nature, thematic exhibitions, routes and cultural themes. Pozalagua Cave offers guided tours through an underground world of stalactites, stalagmites, speleothems and eccentric formations. The Armañón Megalithic Route and the El sueño indiano tour offer different focuses: one connects nature and culture, while the other presents history and architecture.

Cave, Exhibition and Wildlife

All visits to Pozalagua Cave are guided; independent access is not permitted. Plan your cave visit as a guided experience and check current visiting availability before travelling. The formations described include not only stalactites and stalagmites, but also speleothems and eccentric formations, which create the distinctive underground landscape.

The Armañón Parketxe features a permanent exhibition on local fauna and flora, native breeds and the underground world. A virtual flight and a 3D experience underground complement the exhibition themes. The natural environment and underground world are both in focus here, while Pozalagua Cave offers a guided tour of its formations.

BBK Karpín Fauna is a wildlife rescue centre for animals seized in illegal trade, abandoned pets and native animals that cannot be released back into the wild. This role is distinct from the palaeontological Terrasauro camp at BBK Karpín Fauna: there, visitors learn about dinosaur species and their way of life alongside four researchers.

Routes with Different Itineraries

The Armañón Megalithic Route is a cultural itinerary close to nature, with 14 monuments. It connects the hamlet of El Suceso with the Armañón Parketxe. Signposted access points and route markers complement the route description.

On the ENK22 Karrantza: Concha-Lanzasagudas circular route, Concha and Lanzasagudas are the connected endpoints. The Karrantza-Balgerri-Ordunte route also starts in the hamlet of Concha, but heads south towards Balgerri. Different starting points and itineraries are therefore relevant when choosing a route: on the ENK22, Lanzasagudas is the destination, while the description of the second route points towards Balgerri. Check current conditions before planning the ENK22 circular route.

History and Local Products

The guided El sueño indiano tour starts in the hamlet of Concha in Karrantza Harana. It presents the history and architecture of the houses built by returning emigrants. If you choose this tour, bear in mind when planning that booking conditions may change. Its focus is on the houses and their history, not on a nature or cave experience.

Local culinary traditions include produce from horticulture and livestock farming, including traditional sheep’s cheese made from local milk.

Plan Your Stay Around Your Interests

When planning your trip, it makes a difference whether you choose a guided visit, a history-focused tour or a route. Access to Pozalagua Cave must be guided; El sueño indiano is also a guided tour. For the routes, the stated starting and ending points and the described itinerary help you find your way. Check cave visiting availability and the tour’s booking conditions in advance. This lets you choose your hotel based on the experiences that interest you most, without assuming that every stop requires the same kind of planning.
