Telde offers different focal points for planning a trip: historic districts with notable buildings and art, as well as a coastline where you can enjoy activities in and on the water. If you’re looking for a hotel in Telde, you can first consider whether the city’s history, architecture, or coastal experiences should shape your trip most.

Historic districts and architecture

The San Juan district forms the city’s founding core. The historic center is home to the main civic and religious buildings, clustered around the original Church of San Juan Bautista and the Plaza Mayor. The buildings are thus grouped around two distinctive landmarks in the old center. In 1981, the historic centers of the San Juan and San Francisco districts were declared an asset of special cultural interest as a historic-artistic ensemble.

The main chapel of the Church of San Juan Bautista contains two altarpieces: one in the Gothic-Flemish style and another from the 18th century, which frames the older one. There is also a winged altarpiece brought from Flanders in the 16th century. The church also houses a crucified Christ imported from America. It is made from corn paste using a technique described as Indian. These details make San Juan an important focal point if you’re interested in religious art and the city’s history.

San Francisco has a different architectural character. Narrow streets, low houses with gabled roofs, and long whitewashed walls define the district. A stroll through San Juan, by contrast, takes you past grand houses whose architecture combines simple Mudéjar elements with other styles. This allows you to see the different forms and scales of development within the historic city, rather than viewing the two districts as a single, uniform picture.

Individual buildings also tell the story of change over time. The Church of San Francisco stands on the site of the former Chapel of Santa María La Antigua. It has two naves, one of which was added in the 19th century. The Way of the Cross crosses in the historic San Francisco district also remain in their original location. They commemorate the Franciscans who settled there in 1610.

Museum and educational activities

The Casa-Museo León y Castillo is located in the birthplace of the brothers Juan and Fernando and is dedicated to sharing their legacy. Its mission also includes research into the brothers and their historical period. The museum thus complements the impressions offered by the churches and districts with a focus on people and history.

The house has an educational activities department as well as educational escape rooms. As the educational program may change, check in advance what is currently on offer if you’re planning to take part. This will help ensure your plans reflect the activities actually scheduled for the time of your visit.

Telde’s coastline and activities

The municipality’s coastline is another possible focus for your trip. Activities such as diving, snorkeling, and surfing are available along the coast of Telde. Check sea conditions and local safety advice before taking part. A promenade lined with information boards about the surrounding area runs along much of the coast. This means coastal attractions and information about the area complement the city’s historical highlights.

Planning your trip

Bus route 12 is also useful for getting around Telde: it runs every half hour and terminates in the urban area of Telde. Check the latest timetable and frequency again before traveling. The historic districts, museum, and coastline each cater to different interests. Choosing one of these focal points first can help you tailor your search for a hotel in Telde to the trip you have planned.
