Playa Honda: Coastal Path, Sports and Fiestas

Playa Honda can be described in terms of its coastal promenade, connections between walking and cycling routes, and diverse leisure activities.

Promenade and routes around Playa Honda

Playa Honda stretches for almost two kilometres along a long seafront promenade. A coastal cycle and footpath connects the Paseo de Playa Honda with Arrecife. The fourth section of the cycle path is designated as a connection between the Paseo de Playa Honda and Lanzarote Airport. This means that both a route for cyclists and pedestrians towards Arrecife and another separately designated section are part of the local network.

To the north, the promenade connects Playa Honda with nearby Playa de Guacimeta. This beach is a point of interest in its own right, separate from the town’s seafront promenade: arriving aircraft can be watched from there. Playa de Guacimeta also has a designated area for pets, which is available year-round with no time restrictions. Water sports and exercise

Windsurfing takes place at Playa Honda in summer. In 2022, an open-water swimming course was held in Playa Honda near “Loro Verde”. Three buoys marked out a triangle there with a course length of about 750 metres. In 2022, many open-water swimming training sessions for professionals also took place at the same location. The time of year when windsurfing takes place and the approximate length of the swimming course offer different points of reference when planning water-based activities for your trip.

There are also various sports facilities on land. The Centro Deportivo Playa Honda is a public sports facility that can be used free of charge and has two padel courts, a skate park, a multi-purpose court and a mini basketball court (as of May 2024). The “Extreme Center” indoor skate park in Playa Honda offers classes for children; the Estadio Municipal de Playa Honda has a natural-grass football pitch (as of May 2024). The “La Casa del Bienestar” yoga centre in Playa Honda offers yoga classes for children and their families (as of May 2024).

Fiestas with changing programmes

The municipality describes the Fiestas Fin de Verano de Playa Honda as traditional celebrations in Lanzarote’s summer events calendar. Individual programmes may vary from year to year. The 2021 and 2022 Fiestas de Playa Honda included a Fiesta del Viento, with kite displays and kite-making workshops. The 2021 edition was aimed particularly at children and families.

Culinary events have also been recorded for specific years: the 2022 Fiestas de Playa Honda included a wine tasting featuring local products on Avenida de Playa Honda. These specific examples show how varied local events can be—from kite activities to a wine tasting. When planning your trip, it is therefore worth checking the programme for the relevant year rather than assuming it stays the same.
