Corvera De Toranzo: Hiking Trails, Cultural Heritage and Museum
Accommodation in Corvera De Toranzo
Explore Corvera De Toranzo through its various hiking and cycling routes and cultural attractions. The routes differ in their destinations and features: the Ruta de la Flora focuses on plant life and rural architecture, the Hayedo de Requejada passes through forest and Natura 2000 habitats, and other trails take in waterways or a VĂa Verde. San Vicente de Toranzo also has protected buildings and an ethnographic museum.
Hiking routes through heathland, forest and waterways
The Ruta de la Flora is a circular route that starts at the municipal car park in San Vicente and leads to the local church. It passes through wet Atlantic heathland, a habitat typical of cool, damp places with poorly drained soils. Along the way, you can observe notable native and non-native plant species found in the municipality. The route also passes scattered sandstone meadow huts. These are considered valuable cultural heritage and shape the area’s typical rural landscape. Plant life and traditional rural architecture are therefore two specific features of the same route.
The Hayedo de Requejada starts in San Vicente and initially follows a paved path through mixed woodland. The route also passes through habitats of Community interest that are part of the Natura 2000 network within the municipality. These include heathland formations and beech forests typical of the mid-mountain areas. When planning this route, you can therefore take into account the initial path surface and the different forest and heathland habitats.
The Ruta del Agua starts at the car park of the Ayuntamiento de Corvera de Toranzo in the town of San Vicente. From there, it leads to the banks of the RĂo Pas and then onto the VĂa Verde. The Ruta Calzada Romana also starts at the Ayuntamiento car park in San Vicente, but follows the waterways of Corvera De Toranzo. These include rivers, streams, sinkholes, rivulets, springs and livestock watering troughs. The two routes therefore differ in their described itineraries: the riverbank and VĂa Verde are the prominent destinations on the Ruta del Agua, while the Ruta Calzada Romana takes in a variety of waterways. Check local trail conditions when planning the Ruta Calzada Romana.
Cycling routes with different details
The Ruta 1 Bici follows the VĂa Verde del Pas to the football pitch in San Vicente de Toranzo. The Ruta 6 Bici is listed as 21.5 kilometres long, with 650 metres of positive elevation gain; it is suitable for mountain bikes and electric mountain bikes. The two routes can be distinguished by their different features: the Ruta 1 Bici has a specific destination on the VĂa Verde, while the Ruta 6 Bici has a stated distance, elevation gain and the types of bikes it is intended for.
