Argentona offers several ways to shape a trip where culture and landscape play equally important roles. You can encounter ceramics in the collection of the Museu del Càntir d’Argentona, at a fair and in local traditions. Historic buildings and trails offer other points of interest. You can tailor your stay to whether you are more interested in the history of ceramics, local history, or a tour on foot or by bicycle.

Ceramics, from collections to craftsmanship

The Museu del Càntir d’Argentona holds more than 4,000 exhibits. They span a period from the Bronze Age to Picasso and include popular and traditional ceramics from across the 20th century. The collection brings together very different periods and forms. The museum’s cultural programme includes temporary exhibitions and talks, as well as a ceramics school, the Festa del Càntir and a pottery fair. Some activities may vary by season.

ArgillĂ  Argentona, the ceramics fair held in July, offers another opportunity to experience ceramics as a craft. The visitor programme includes traditional pottery demonstrations, wheel-throwing and raku workshops, and concerts featuring ceramic instruments. The individual offerings may vary from one edition to another. If you want to plan your trip around the fair, check the specific dates and programme in advance.

Traditions and architectural history

The Festa del Càntir continues the tradition of the Aplec de Sant Domènec, which has been celebrated in Argentona on 4 August since the 17th century. The first Festa del Càntir was held in 1951. The blessing of the water at the Font de Sant Domingo also takes place on 4 August; it dates back to a religious gathering that has been held since 1636. This date therefore appears in the local calendar in two distinct historical contexts.

The Casa Puig i Cadafalch also tells the story of changes to the built environment. It is the architect’s summer house, created by enlarging three older houses and joining them into a single building. This architectural history makes the house a distinct way to explore Argentona’s architectural past. The Església de Sant Sebastià lies north of the town on a hill 100 metres high. The remains of Castell de Burriac stand 401 metres above sea level and are visible from several places in the Maresme.

Making sense of trails and views

A specific tour is described as the “Ruta pel castell de Burriac i turons de l'entorn.” It starts at Font Picant, is 7.44 kilometres long, takes about three hours and has an elevation gain of 305 metres. Its length, approximate duration and elevation gain give you several reference points to help factor the tour into your trip plans.

By contrast, the Senders d'Argentona is a collection of hiking trails that can be used on foot or by bicycle. The trails explore Argentona’s natural heritage and the municipality’s many springs. While the Burriac route comes with specific distance and time details, this collection of trails highlights the variety of routes and their connection to natural heritage and springs. For up-to-date information about specific trail conditions, check locally.

TastArgentona adds another perspective, bringing together products from Argentona and brief historical explanations: the local tourism route presents both. This lets you consider culture, local history and local produce as different themes for your stay, without reducing them to a single sightseeing itinerary.

When planning your trip, keep in mind the different dates and themes: ArgillĂ  takes place in July, while 4 August has a special historical role in the traditions mentioned above. If you are travelling for a particular festival or fair programme, check the relevant dates in advance. If your focus is more on the collection, architecture or trails, Argentona and its cultural and landscape attractions offer other ways to shape your stay.
