If you’re looking for a hotel in Castelldefels, the range of travel interests can help you decide what to focus on during your stay. The city combines its coastline with water sports, routes through urban and natural areas, and historical and gastronomic offerings. This gives you ideas for a trip that takes in the many different sides of the place.

The coast of Castelldefels

Playa de Castelldefels is 4,840 metres long and an average of 100 metres wide along its entire length. It is divided into three beaches named after the city’s neighbourhoods. These measurements give an idea of the coastline’s scale, without requiring any single beach activity to be the main focus.

The Baixador and Lluminetes beach sections have been awarded the Blue Flag. Among other things, the award recognises sustainable management, bathing water quality, accessibility, safety, and services and facilities. As the award status may change between seasons or years, it is advisable to check the latest status for your travel dates.

Water sports and outdoor trails

Activities at the Canal Olímpico de Cataluña include canoeing, rowing, water skiing, cable water skiing, windsurfing, padel, kayaking and wakeboarding. You can also rent boats for a trip along the canal. Activities and rentals may vary depending on the season and operator. An asphalt loop, 2,800 metres long, also runs around the canal.

There are eight municipal trails in Castelldefels for exploring urban and natural areas. One is the hike along the watchtowers: it leads from the town centre to the train station and back via the beach. The route is 13 kilometres long, takes about four hours, has a total elevation gain of 145 metres and is of moderate difficulty. The route and details may be updated, so check them before setting out.

Castelldefels is also a gateway to the protected Parque Natural del Garraf. The nature park offers hiking trails and cycling routes, as well as opportunities to observe native flora and fauna. Individual routes and their conditions may vary. The trails in this protected area thus complement the municipal trails, which take you through the city’s urban and natural areas.

History, events and gastronomy

Castell de Castelldefels was built in the 10th century on top of an Iberian settlement and, later, a Roman settlement. The history of the building therefore reaches back to a time when settlements in this location were changing. It is a historical landmark alongside today’s coastal and outdoor activities.

The Fira Medieval Castrum Fidelis features a medieval market, medieval games and historical re-enactments. It also includes a jousting tournament in Parc de la Muntanyeta. Another aspect of local events is the annual Mostra de Cuina de Castelldefels: restaurants prepare representative dishes and offer them to the public to sample.

Public observing evenings are also part of the events programme: Astrofels organises them throughout the year at the Observatorio Astronómico de Castelldefels, usually on Friday evenings. Dates and programme items for the Fira may change; dates and participating restaurants for the Mostra may also vary. The times of the observing evenings can change as well. Before your trip, check the latest event information for the activities you’re interested in.
