Explore L’Hospitalet de Llobregat during a stay focused on art, city history and themed walking tours. The cultural venues have a range of different focuses: a former textile factory is now a cultural centre, historic houses host museums, and several city walks explore specific periods or themes. When choosing your hotel, consider whether art and museums or the history of the neighbourhoods will be a bigger part of your stay.

Art at the Tecla Sala Cultural Centre

The Centre d’Art Tecla Sala is located in a former 19th-century textile factory. Today, the building is a cultural centre. In addition to the Centre d’Art, it is home to the Biblioteca Central, TPK – Art i Pensament Contemporani, the Centre d’Estudis de L’Hospitalet (CEL’H) and the Fundació Arranz-Bravo. Guided tours are available by prior reservation.

The Fundació Arranz-Bravo promotes the work of artist Eduard Arranz-Bravo and supports the contemporary work of young artists. A cultural listing updated in May 2024 mentions 340 works in the collection; the collection may change. Tecla Sala is therefore a place that highlights both the work of an individual artist and the promotion of contemporary art.

City History in Museums and Historic Houses

The Museu d’Història de L’Hospitalet is primarily dedicated to the city’s history. Its permanent exhibition explains the motives and circumstances that have shaped L’Hospitalet, rather than focusing on monumental building projects. Casa Espanya is one of the museum’s permanent sites. It houses the permanent exhibitions “L’Hospitalet, un indret, una història” and “L’Hospitalet i la memòria democràtica”.

Can Sumarro is housed in a 16th-century farmhouse surrounded by gardens. The site includes two buildings: the former farmhouse and the barn. Can Sumarro is a focal point of cultural and social life in the centre of L’Hospitalet; its collection includes a section specialising in Spanish cinema. Outdoor activities are also held on the grounds. The Atalaya, meanwhile, is a 16th-century defensive tower.

Choose City Walks by Theme

The “El món de Puig i Gairalt a Collblanc” walk goes on foot through the Collblanc and La Torrassa neighbourhoods and focuses on the work of architect Puig i Gairalt. The “L’Hospitalet industrial” walk also goes on foot, through Centre and Sant Josep. It explores the city’s industrial heritage through the history of former factories dating from the mid-20th century. One walk centres on an architect, while the other explores the city’s industrial past.

“La vila vella de L’Hospitalet” is a walking tour through the old town that explores the city’s origins and its former agricultural context, including wine and grain cultivation. The “Les dones de L’Hospitalet” route looks at women’s contributions to the city’s development; it passes through newer residential areas from Santa Eulàlia to Bellvitge. The “Transició democràtica a L’Hospitalet” city walk starts in Collblanc and La Torrassa and ends in Bellvitge. Streets and buildings illustrate important events in local history from 1960 to 1980.

If you’re looking for a clearly defined period, the walk on the democratic transition is a good choice. “La vila vella”, by contrast, focuses on the city’s origins and its former agricultural life. These different historical perspectives offer a practical way to choose a walking tour.
