Malgrat De Mar lies between the sea, the eastern hills, the Montnegre Massif, and the Tordera River and its delta. The area includes a range of landscapes: floodplain and beaches, as well as the hills and slopes of Montnegre. For planning your trip, this provides a setting where the beach, trails and local history come together.

Beaches and the Tordera landscape

The equipped beaches stretch for more than 4.5 kilometres and have white sand. If you would like to explore the landscape inland as well as the beach, the “Playa, Pla de Grau y Delta del Tordera” hike offers a different focus. It passes through the town’s agricultural area, to the dunes at La Conca Beach and onward to the Tordera Delta.

In the area of La Punta del Tordera Beach, there is an observation tower for watching birds and ducks. When exploring the landscape, this brings several specific features into focus: sandy beaches and dunes, agricultural land, the delta and the birdlife along the beach.

Choosing hikes and trails

The “Turó d'en Serra y Minas de Can Palomeres” route is classified as moderate. This is due to the elevation gain over a short distance. There is also an important restriction to bear in mind when planning the hike: the Can Palomeres mines must not be entered because they are dangerous. You can therefore explore the route without planning to visit the mines.

For a different way to explore the area, there is a section of the Tourdera route from Malgrat de Mar to Palafolls, which can be used on foot or by bicycle. The information can help you make a specific choice: on the route via Turó d'en Serra, the moderate difficulty is due to the elevation gain over a short distance; the Tourdera section is intended for cycling and walking. Check current trail conditions before setting out on a hike.

Park and historic buildings

At Parc Francesc Macià, giant figures with childlike themes stand out, reaching up to five metres in height. The park is fully accessible and has gentle, easy-to-follow paths without barriers. If accessibility is important to your plans, check current conditions before your visit.

The Església Parroquial de Sant Nicolau was completed in 1783. Its nave is 45 metres long and 24 metres wide, and it is known as the “Catedral de la Costa.” The dimensions and name offer two different points of reference for the church: its size and the name by which it is known.

The Casal dels Clapers also reflects a change over time. The building was constructed at the end of the 16th century as a manor house and residence of the noble Clapers family. In 1998, it was converted into the Biblioteca Municipal La Cooperativa. The Torre del Castell adds to this historical context: it has been documented since 1382 and was associated with the Castillo de Palafolls.

Getting there and the summer festival

Malgrat de Mar railway station is opposite Malgrat Centro Beach. From there, services run to Barcelona and its metropolitan area, to Girona, and as far as the French border. Check timetables and connections in advance when planning your journey.

The Fiesta Mayor de Sant Roc is Malgrat de Mar’s main summer festival. Its highlight coincides with the feast day of Saint Roch on 16 August. If you would like to plan your trip around the festival, check the current dates and programme in advance.
