Molins De Rei brings together cultural themes, urban walking routes and natural spaces. When looking for a hotel, you can consider which focus you want to shape your trip: local history and crafts, the Renaissance, routes through the town or botanical themes. The Fira de la Candelera also adds a distinct highlight.

Museums and history

The Museu Municipal de Molins de Rei focuses on the town’s local history, culture and crafts. Its archaeological collection comes from Molins de Rei and the comarca and covers all periods. At Ca n'Ametller, at Plaça Catalunya 25, there is also a space for temporary exhibitions, with exhibitions scheduled throughout the year. The museum thus combines a collection spanning a broad chronology with a venue for temporary exhibition themes.

The Museo del Renacimiento has a narrower historical focus: it displays around a hundred works of art and objects from the 15th and 16th centuries and presents the history, culture and society of the Renaissance. It is the first monographic museum in Catalonia dedicated to this subject. It is housed in the historic Palacio de Requesens, a building classified as a Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional (BCIN). Compared with the Museu Municipal, its focus on a particular period is clearly narrower.

Castellciuró is also connected with the area’s history. The first documented references date from the 10th century, when Castellciuró was a defensive fortress in the territory of Olorda. It was classified as a Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional (BCIN) in 1949. Its early historical function and its later protected status refer to different points in time.

Walking routes and wayfinding

Four walking routes pass through the town’s streets and explore its historical heritage, the feudal period and other notable places. In addition, the municipal Camí de Sant Jaume project includes urban wayfinding along the sections of the route that pass through the town centre. Molins de Rei also has eight signposts for hiking trails and paths, forming part of the wayfinding network in Baix Llobregat. The four themed walking routes and the signposts on the regional network are different points of reference for a stay focused on getting out and about.

Botanical garden and wetlands

The JardĂ botĂ nic del CEM is located near Masia Can Vilagut. Covering 1,500 square metres, it contains around 250 wild plant species representative of Mediterranean lowland forests. Guided tours with commentary are available for groups of ten or more. The garden has a clear botanical focus, reflected in its area, number of species and group tours.

The Aiguamolls de Molins de Rei are artificial wetlands on the left bank of the Llobregat, right next to its riverbed. Molins de Rei therefore offers different kinds of nature experiences: the garden’s connection to plants of Mediterranean lowland forests and the wetlands by the river.

Fira de la Candelera

The Fira de la Candelera was first held in 1851 and was recognised as a traditional festival of national interest in 2002. The Fira offers tastings of a wide selection of wines and cavas. The food offering also includes a traditional carters’ breakfast called Coradella. The event is held on the first weekend of February; check the specific dates if you are planning your trip around it. This makes the Fira a distinct focus to include in your plans, separate from the town’s museums, walking routes and nature.
