Olost lies in a small valley through which the Riera d’Olost flows. If you’re looking for hotels in Olost, local themes can help you decide what you want your trip to focus on: church architecture, historic routes, waterside landscapes or an event date. The sights and experiences each offer a different emphasis—from architectural history in the town centre to a mountain bike route explicitly rated as challenging.

Churches and historic houses

Santa Maria d’Olost is distinguished by two identical octagonal bell towers. The present-day church is neoclassical and dates from the late 18th century. The historic town centre also has numerous houses with dated lintels, mainly from the 18th and 19th centuries; some date from the 17th century. The present-day church and the older lintels therefore represent different points in the history of the town’s architecture.

The Ermita de Sant Adjutori was completed in 1717, overlooks the valley and offers panoramic views of Olost. The visit brings together the history of the building and the landscape views.

Water, routes and landscapes

The Pantà de Rexach was built in 1945 and is more than 1.5 kilometres long. Olost’s forests consist mainly of oaks, black pines and Scots pines; some areas also have holm oaks.

The Saludable Ruta del Molí i les Hortes route follows the Riera d’Olost past traditional vegetable gardens and goes by the Molí de les Escases. The Route de l’aigua amb història connects Olost and Santa Creu de Jutglar via the historic Transversal and Central cattle tracks. The two routes thus offer different highlights: one focuses on the stream, gardens and mill, while the other connects two settlements via historic cattle tracks.

The challenging BTT El Sorreigs mountain bike route runs along the Espai d’Interès Natural del Sorreigs and passes through three municipalities. Along the way are old mills, springs and natural pools, as well as a wide variety of animal and plant species. If you’re taking the route’s character into account when planning your trip, its challenging rating provides a useful point of reference.

Culture, experiences and event dates

The Centre d’Interpretació Perot Rocaguinarda presents the historical, literary and legendary dimensions of the bandit through texts, images, objects and audiovisual projections. A group escape room experience complements the theme and is based at the Espai Rocaguinarda. Visits to the Centre must be arranged in advance. Before your trip, also check whether visits are currently possible.

At Forn Sant Adjutori, you can find out how bread is made; it is advisable to confirm your visit in advance. Another occasion is the Fira del Formatge de Pastor i Llet Crua: it takes place on the first Sunday in October and offers raw-milk cheeses made from cow’s, goat’s and sheep’s milk. If you’re planning your trip around this event, check the date for the relevant year.

The Fira de la Transhumància features food stalls, walks, a communal breakfast, workshops, games and music. The programme may vary from one edition to the next—bear this in mind if you want to plan your trip around a particular activity.
