Beaches and water sports
Platja dels Pins is in the north of Pineda de Mar. Pine trees surround this Mediterranean coastal area, which also has a picnic area. A sailing club and a water sports centre offer activities including windsurfing, banana boat rides and wakeboarding. The availability of these activities may vary by season.
Platja de la Riera is quiet and family-friendly. Shady, landscaped areas invite you to take a stroll; access is via underpasses with stairs and ramps. Fishermen’s Beach can also be reached via underpasses with stairs and ramps. There is also a level crossing in the station area. The beach has a platform and a water park.
In summer, Pineda de Mar offers free activities for families, such as the Baby Centre and the Mini Beach Club. Some facilities operate seasonally. The activities offered at the Base Nà utica de Pineda de Mar include catamaran trips, kayaking, Flyfish and water skiing; nautical equipment is also available for hire. Walking routes
The route to Font del Ferro is a 6.5-kilometre circular walk. It starts and ends at the church of Pineda de Mar, passes through Mediterranean woodland and is rated moderate. Check trail conditions and safety requirements before setting out.
Another route runs through the valley of the Riera de Pineda. It starts at the parish church of Santa Maria in Pineda de Mar; along the way, it passes through agricultural land and woodland landscapes of ecological value. History and culture
The first temple of Santa Maria de Pineda was consecrated in 1079 by Bishop Berenguer Guifré of Girona. On 1 August 1545, the Turkish corsair Dragut attacked Santa Maria de Pineda. The church and other places in Pineda were fortified afterwards.
A 16th-century masia currently houses the Fundació Tharrats d’Art Grà fic and Pineda’s cultural centre. The foundation preserves graphic art by numerous contemporary artists, most of them Catalan. These include Miró, Tà pies, Brossa and Tharrats.
Getting there and recurring events
Pineda de Mar has a railway station on line C-1. Trains run every 30 minutes in both directions: to Maçanet/Blanes and to Barcelona/L’Hospitalet de Llobregat. Check the timetable before travelling.
The Sant Jaume gatherings have been held annually since 1979, usually on the last Sunday in May. As the exact date may vary, check the date if you are planning your trip around the event.
