Sant Climent De Llobregat: Cherry Blossom and Heritage
Accommodation in Sant Climent De Llobregat
Discover Sant Climent De Llobregat through two distinct highlights: walks among cherry trees and buildings that tell the story of the town’s long history. When planning your trip, you can decide whether to focus mainly on the seasonal landscape or on the churches, chapels and agricultural heritage.
Cherry Blossom and Trails Around Sant Climent
During cherry blossom season, the valleys of the Riera de Salom turn white. The Ruta turĂstica del cirerer en flor begins at Plaça de la Vila. Along the CamĂ Ral section, the route climbs uphill via CamĂ de l'Angla, passing cherry trees in the Querol sector before reaching the new wooden footbridge at Estret de Roques. On the descent, the route passes through the Sant Ramon mountain sector and continues to Masia de Can Molins. This described route alternates between blossoming cherry trees, an ascent and a descent to the historic estate.
Since 2006, walks through white-blossomed cherry groves have taken place in Sant Climent during the flowering season. On various routes among the cherry trees, local farmers accompany residents and visitors through the landscapes of the Sant Climent mountains. Cherry blossom season is a seasonal occasion to enjoy the trails and scenery together.
Another route follows the CamĂ Ral through Mediterranean woodland to the Ermita del Roser. The chapel was built in 1955 as a single-nave structure and renovated in 1985. An Aplec takes place there every year on the first Sunday in October; the Ermita opens for the occasion. If you would like to combine your visit with the festival, check the event date before you travel.
Romanesque Architecture and Rural History
The Església de Sant Climent preserves part of the bell tower of a church dating from the 10th century. It is the only fully preserved Romanesque bell tower in Baix Llobregat. This makes it a clear point of interest if you are interested in the region’s architectural history.
Masia de Can Molins also preserves traces of its history. The date 1709 is inscribed on the voussoirs above the main entrance. The estate includes a chapel originally dedicated to Sant Miquel: construction began in 1773, and it was blessed and consecrated in 1777. The threshing floor, oil mill, grape press and animal stalls, all parts of the estate’s agricultural production, are still preserved there. Together, these features offer a tangible insight into the estate’s agricultural use.
The Museu d'Eines del Pagès is housed in three large rooms on the ground floor and in the courtyard of the rectory adjoining the church. Its collection consists mainly of agricultural tools, carts, household items and kitchen furniture from the 19th century. A visit to the museum adds objects from rural everyday life to the picture of Can Molins; the preserved buildings and the collection each offer their own perspective.
Cherry Festival and Getting Your Bearings
The Festa de les Cireres is celebrated every year on the last weekend of May in honour of local cherries; the exact dates may vary from year to year. The festival includes tastings and the sale of various cherry varieties. This sets it apart from the blossom-season walks: here, the focus is on the fruit itself and its variety. Check the dates for the relevant festival year when planning your trip.
Sant Climent can also serve as a starting point for another walk to the Ermita de Sant Ramon. The described route goes via l'Angla, the new bridge at Estret de Roques and a forest track that begins at the foot of the new wooden structure. From the viewpoint by the Ermita de Sant Ramon, you can see the entire Delta del Llobregat; on clear days, the island of Mallorca is also visible.
For directions when travelling to the area: the BV.2003 comes from Viladecans and the BV.2004 from Sant Boi; both roads meet in the town centre. When choosing a hotel, you can first decide what you would like to focus on during your trip: cherry blossom trails, the October Aplec, or the various features of the town’s architectural and agricultural history each offer a different perspective on Sant Climent De Llobregat.
