Discover Tavèrnoles
Accommodation in Tavèrnoles
Tavèrnoles lies in the eastern part of the Osona comarca, along the natural dividing line between the plain and the Guilleries. Much of the municipality is within the Guilleries-Savassona Natural Area. For planning your trip, you can choose between hiking routes and cultural heritage sites as different points of focus. You can tailor your stay to whether you are particularly interested in trails on foot or by bike, or in the area's buildings and archaeological sites.
Hiking routes and navigation
Several trails can be distinguished by their route type. The PR-217 “Camins de Verdaguer” short-distance hiking trail passes through Folgueroles, Tavèrnoles and Sant Julià de Vilatorta. The FEEC certified the trail; the Diputació de Barcelona reported on it in November 2024. You can start the PR-217 at the Centre d'Informació de Tavèrnoles. The SL-125 “Sant Feliuet de Savassona” circular trail also starts there.
Another option is the route from Tavèrnoles to Sant Pere de Casserres through Savassona: it follows the PR C-40 trail and is nine kilometres one way. This differs from the Sant Feliuet de Savassona circular walk, which is six kilometres long and takes approximately one hour and 40 minutes. When planning, it helps to consider both the route type and the stated distance or duration. Details for these routes may change; check the local signage before setting out.
Tavèrnoles has a permanent orienteering course with 14 checkpoints of varying technical difficulty. If you are cycling, consider the Tavèrnoles–Santa Magdalena de Conangle route separately: it has technically demanding sections for cyclists, and conditions may vary by season.
Buildings and archaeological sites
The current building of the Església de Sant Esteve de Tavèrnoles dates from 1070. Sant Pere de Savassona is a Romanesque, single-nave building with a semicircular apse to the east. “Single-nave” describes a floor plan with just one nave; the apse is on the east side. Sant Feliuet de Savassona is a pre-Romanesque monument built in the 10th and 11th centuries. The three buildings represent different historical and architectural points of interest, and there is no need to visit them in any particular order.
The Savassona archaeological sites also offer a long view of the past. They provide evidence of continuous settlement in the area from the Early and Middle Neolithic through the Chalcolithic and various phases of the Bronze Age to the Iron Age and Iberian period. At Pla de Savassona, the Pedra de l'Home is protected as a Cultural Asset of National Interest. Check information about its conservation status before visiting.
Festa Remença and regional cuisine
The Festa Remença takes place in Tavèrnoles on the third weekend of October. If you are planning your trip around it, check the programme for that year. The sixth edition, in 2025, included a historical reenactment of La Presa del Castell de Savassona: around 50 actors recreated real events that took place in Tavèrnoles at the end of the 15th century. The festival takes place today; the events it portrays occurred several centuries ago.
A local culinary recommendation is Restaurant Fussimanya in the Guilleries. It is known for its homemade platter of sausages and cold cuts, served with toasted coca torrada del mossèn. As the dish's availability may change, ask about it in advance if you are interested.
Plan your visit and getting there
The Centre d'Informació de Tavèrnoles has information materials about the Guilleries-Savassona Natural Area and the permanent exhibition “Savassona, a gran escala”. The Centre also organises guided tours of the town and its surroundings. Check opening arrangements and dates before travelling.
For travel by car, take exit 183 (Roda de Ter/Tavèrnoles). From there, follow the C-153 and turn right onto the BV-5213. As road and navigation conditions may change, check the information before setting off. Public intercity transport connects Tavèrnoles with Vic. Timetables and any booking requirements may change; check the current services in advance. This will help you plan your journey to suit your chosen trails, visits or event dates.
