Hiking trails, churches and events offer different ways to plan your trip to Viladecaballs. If you enjoy walking, the local routes and the hike to Turó de les Bassotes provide specific details to help you plan. Those interested in architecture and history will find several churches and historical sites, each with its own features.

Hikes and trails in the municipality

A municipal portal provides hiking and mountain biking routes as well as a hiking map. One specific hike leads to Turó de les Bassotes: it is 0.53 kilometres each way, takes about 30 minutes each way and involves 120 metres of elevation gain. The route can be reached by vehicle and on foot. The hike also includes a visit to the old Forn Riscal lime kiln; a path leads there from the car park. Check trail conditions before setting out, as they can change.

Two long-distance trails run through different parts of the municipality. The GR-6 crosses the south and connects Barcelona with Montserrat. The GR-96, also known as the Camí Romeu de Montserrat, runs through the north. These details provide a general overview of the routes, but do not replace planning for your specific journey: the hike to Turó de les Bassotes is described by its duration, distance and elevation gain, while the details about the two GR trails mainly indicate their routes and connection or name.

Churches and historical sites

Sant Martí de Sorbet was consecrated at the end of the 11th century by Bishop Folc of Barcelona. The Capella del Santíssim was added to the church during the pre-Modernist period and is particularly known for its stained-glass windows. The former Can Turu farmhouse also offers a glimpse into how a place has changed: its surviving outbuildings now house the municipal library, while a square was created on the former site of the main building. If you plan to visit the library, check the municipal service details beforehand.

Sant Miquel de Toudell is a Romanesque single-nave church with a semicircular apse, decorated on the outside with Lombard blind arcades. It is located on the grounds of the Can Mir farmhouse, where a necropolis and remains of a Roman settlement have been found. Santa Maria de Toudell is attached to the Can Trias farmhouse and lies on the northeastern edge of the municipality, near the municipal area of Terrassa. Its rectangular floor plan, single nave and semicircular apse offer another architectural point of comparison with Sant Miquel de Toudell.

A small path from the road between Terrassa and Viladecaballs leads to the remains of Castell de Toudell. The castle stands on the same plateau as the Romanesque hermitage of Sant Miquel de Toudell. Perched on a rocky outcrop at an altitude of about 220 metres, Castell de Toudell overlooks the valley of the Riera de Gaià, the Torrent del Salt and Turó de Can Mitjans.

Landscape, heritage and places to visit

Forn Riscal is a large traditional lime kiln on the edge of a path in a wooded area. The hike to Turó de les Bassotes links it to details about a specific route; the lime kiln itself can be viewed as a historic structure. La Pedra Degollada offers a different point of interest: this natural formation consists of quartz conglomerate and two large blocks stacked on top of each other.

Granja Aventura Park is an educational leisure park in Viladecaballs for children and adults. It complements the hiking and heritage themes with a place to visit explicitly described as suitable for both age groups.

Festivals and concert dates

The Festa Major takes place every year on the second weekend of July and lasts four days. The Viu la Veu concert series is held in June and July on the terrace of the Pau Casals Music School. The concerts take place outdoors at sunset and offer views of Montserrat. The Festa de Sant Martí also includes a food fair featuring products from the region and celebrating farming traditions and popular culture. If you want to plan your trip around one of these events, check the relevant programme and dates in advance.
