Cadaqués offers several distinct starting points for planning your trip: historic architecture, sacred art, the history of Salvador Dalí and the natural landscape of the Parc Natural de Cap de Creus. There are also temporary exhibitions, a local dish considered emblematic and water sports activities at Platja de Portlligat. If you are weighing up cultural themes and landscapes, Cadaqués offers more than one possible focus.

Lanes, Church and Music

Calle del Call preserves Cadaqués’s traditional rastell paving in the best-preserved form in the town. Santa Maria de Cadaqués Church brings together further specific cultural points of interest: it houses a 23-metre-high Baroque altarpiece dedicated to Mare de Déu de l’Esperança. The organ also has a clearly dated history. Josep Boscà built it between 1689 and 1691; it is considered one of the oldest organs in Catalonia. This means that a dedicated Baroque work and a historic instrument with its own place in Catalan music history stand side by side in the same church.

Santa Maria de Cadaqués also hosts the Festival Internacional de Música de Cadaqués each year. If music is part of your travel plans, check the dates and programme for your travel period in advance.

Dalí and Temporary Exhibitions

Casa Salvador Dalí was the artist’s residence for forty years. Advance booking is required for a visit; check the current visitor information before travelling. Museu de Cadaqués presents temporary exhibitions related to Cadaqués. The two venues therefore offer different points of interest: Casa Salvador Dalí focuses on its historic connection to Dalí, while the museum features a changing exhibition programme centred on the town.

Cap de Creus Natural Park

The Parc Natural de Cap de Creus covers the territory of eight municipalities, including Cadaqués. The natural park was established in 1998 and was Catalonia’s first maritime-terrestrial natural park. This designation brings sea and land together in a single protected area and broadens the focus beyond the individual cultural sites. At Espai Cap de Creus, the geological, plant and animal development of the surrounding area is presented from a scientific perspective. This also lets you explore the natural environment through different themes, from its geological development to its flora and fauna. The focus differs clearly from the art and history themes in the town.

Coast and Local Cuisine

Cadaqués is a seafaring town and is designated a “Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional”. Its culinary heritage includes suquet de peix, considered an emblematic dish of Cadaqués. Water sports activities are available at Platja de Portlligat; seasonal offerings may change. So check which activities are available during your planned travel period before you go. This will help you decide whether you are most interested in the historic and artistic themes, the natural park or the coastal setting.
