If you’re looking for a hotel in Das, you can plan your stay around what interests you most: churches and architectural history, a walk to the Torre de Das, or a challenging circular hike. There are also opportunities for nature watching, air sports and local festivals. These different themes offer ideas for shaping your time in Das around your interests.

Churches, chapels and architectural history

The Col·lecció museu de Das is housed in the Casa del Comú de Das. The municipality’s churches also tell the story of different periods and architectural styles. Sant Llorenç de Das has been documented as a parish since 1011. The present-day church is Neo-Gothic, with a Latin cross floor plan and a polygonal apse.

Romanesque openings have been preserved in Santa Maria de Mosoll, including a round-arched southern portal and double-splayed windows. The date 1710 is carved into the southern arch of the western bell gable. Sant Iscle i Santa Victòria de Sanavastre is a Romanesque church in the village of Sanavastre, in the municipality of Das in Cerdanya; it is protected as a local cultural asset of special interest.

The chapel of Santa Bàrbara de Das was built in 1902. Santa Bàrbara is the patron saint of miners, and the chapel is next to the old road from Das to La Valira and Urús. Sant Julià de Tartera is no longer used for worship and belongs to the private estate of Ca l’Alier.

Paths and views at the Torre de Das

From the centre of Das, the Passeig de la Torreta leads to the cemetery. The Torre de Das is 125 metres along the route, and the viewpoint is about 50 metres farther on. The path to the tower is paved or otherwise prepared. Facilities along the way include a panoramic table, a spring and benches. As their condition depends on maintenance, it’s best to check before your visit. The path to the viewpoint has been adapted for people with reduced mobility. If this adaptation is important for your plans, confirm the conditions locally.

From the Torre de Das, the view extends north across the Cerdanya plain. Its characteristic patchwork of pastures is divided by deciduous trees, with Puigpedrós and Carlit on the Solana de la Cerdanya on the horizon. This makes the viewpoint worth considering for its landscape as well as a destination for a walk.

A longer option is the circular hike to the Refugi de la Pleta de Das: it is 7.8 kilometres long, climbs 590 metres and takes three hours. The route is a challenging loop. Check the route information before setting out, as conditions can change.

Another route runs from Das via the GI-400, the GI-404 and the road to Coma Oriola. It is listed as 9.6 kilometres long, with 727 metres of elevation gain, an average gradient of 7.6% and a maximum gradient of 11.0%. Check the route before setting out.

Landscape, nature and activities

The Bassa de Sanavastre is a former open-cast lignite mine that has been abandoned. Groundwater seepage has left the area permanently flooded; it covers just over two hectares. Bee-eaters nest on sandy banks, including at the Bassa. They can be observed seasonally from spring to late summer.

The Aeròdrom de Cerdanya is located between Das and Fontanals de Cerdanya; almost the entire site is within the municipality of Das. Fly Cerdanya offers paramotor and paragliding flights from its meeting point at Aeròdrom de la Cerdanya in Das. Participation conditions can change; check them in advance if you plan to take part.

Local festival dates

The Festa Major de Das is scheduled for 9, 10 and 11 August in honour of Sant Llorenç. The Festa Major de Sanavastre is planned for the third weekend in September. The Festa Major de Mosoll is scheduled for 15 August in honour of Santa Maria; the festival at Sant Julià de Tartera is planned for 2 August in honour of the Mare de Déu dels Àngels. If a festival is important to your travel plans, check the exact dates before your trip.
