When planning a trip to Llagostera, you can choose from several themes to help guide you: protected landscapes, trails for different activities, and architecture and museums. You can plan your trip based on whether you want to focus mainly on nature, outdoor activities or culture.

Landscape in the municipal area

The municipal area lies within the protected MassĂs de les Gavarres. The mountain range is characterised by ancient geology, gentle terrain and a variety of substrates. These features offer different ways to explore the landscape: geological age, landform and underlying material are three distinct aspects. If you want to consider Llagostera from a landscape perspective, you can take in these features separately. This lets you understand the natural surroundings not only through activities, but also through the characteristics of the mountain range.

Trails and activities

The Via Verda, also known as the Ruta del Carrilet, passes through Llagostera and is exclusively for pedestrians and cyclists. It has a very gentle, accessible gradient. The Ruta del Carrilet II reaches its highest point in the municipal area of Llagostera at 149 metres. In addition, Llagostera has numerous local routes for hiking, cycling and horse riding, at the foot of the Gavarres and the MassĂs de les Cadiretes. You can distinguish between the trails according to the activity you are looking for and the route information that matters to you: the permitted uses and gradient of the Via Verda, the highest point of the Ruta del Carrilet II, or the wider selection of local routes. If you want to travel on foot or by bike, the Via Verda is one possible starting point; if you also plan to ride horses, you can include the local routes. Since trail conditions can vary, check them before setting out on a specific route.

Architecture and building history

The Ruta Arquitectònica in Llagostera showcases buildings in the Modernist and Noucentista styles, as well as structures associated with the heyday of the cork industry in the 19th and 20th centuries. It therefore brings together architectural styles and a link to local industrial history. The Castell de Montagut offers a different historical perspective: the fortification has a round tower dating from the 9th or 10th century. A later room may date from the 12th century. Here, you can distinguish between the tower’s more securely established date and the tentative dating of the later room.

Museums with different themes

The Museu del Dolmen in the Quadra d’en Ribes explores the history of the municipal area of Llagostera. The Museu Etnològic is housed in the former narrow-gauge railway station and displays tools from agriculture and the cork industry. The Museu Vilà has a collection of paintings featuring works by artists such as Emili Vilà i Gorgoll. The themes range from the history of the area and tools from two economic sectors to painting. If you want to include culture in your travel plans, you can choose according to your interests: local history, objects from agriculture and the cork industry, or art.
