Masella: Ski Slopes and Routes to La Tosa
Accommodation in Masella
La Tosa is a shared reference point for ski slopes and walking trails in Masella: a ski slope starts at the summit, a descent leads from there to Pla de Masella, and a trail climbs up on foot. There is also another route to the mines, “Camins dels Miners.”
Ski Slopes and Elevation Profiles
The Masella ski area lies in a dense pine forest; 90% of its slopes face north. The more than 6 km long “Dues Estacions” ski slope is Masella’s longest and starts at the summit of La Tosa on the eastern side of the ski area; “Familiar,” by contrast, connects La Pleta with Pla de Masella and covers an elevation difference of 420 m.
An uninterrupted descent of 935 m leads from La Tosa at 2,535 m to Pla de Masella at 1,600 m. The exact slope configuration may change as part of operations; check it before your visit.
Routes to the Summit and Mines
The ascent to La Tosa begins at the Coma Oriola car park, at 1,922 m in the Masella ski area. The walking trail from Coma Oriola to La Tosa is considered the shortest and most direct route to the summit on foot. As car park and road conditions may change, check them before setting out.
The Masella–Niu de l’Àliga cable car leads to the start of the “Circuito de las Minas” circular trail near the Niu de l’Àliga refuge; it operates seasonally, so check its schedule separately when planning your trip.
“Camins dels Miners” is a 9 km route that crosses a chairlift and the drag lifts in the Masella ski area and leads to mines about 200 m below the Niu de l’Àliga refuge. Along the way, views open up over the Serra del CadĂ, Penyes Altes de MoixerĂł, Pedraforca and Puigllançada. Infrastructure and trail conditions may change; check current conditions before setting out.
The routes have different highlights: Coma Oriola is the walking route to the summit; “Camins dels Miners” is a 9 km route with lift crossings and the mines as its destination.
Panoramas and Regional Travel Planning
From the summit of La Tosa, the panorama stretches across the whole of Cerdanya and a large part of Catalonia. The summit view adds expansive vistas over the region to the impressions of the pine forest.
In the wider area around Masella is the Museu Municipal De LlĂvia, a museum and therefore an additional cultural point of interest for trip planning.
When searching for hotels in Masella, you can first decide whether the ski slopes, the walking trail to La Tosa or the “Camins dels Miners” route will be the main focus of your stay. Then check the details of the hotel you are considering for your travel dates.
