Entrerríos lies between the courses of the Guadiana and Zújar rivers. The architecture of this colonization settlement, its riverside trails and local festivals reveal different sides of the town and provide a concrete basis for deciding whether Entrerríos matches your travel interests.

Riverside scenery and trails

On the right bank of the Zújar lies the naturalized Playa de Entrerríos, 200 meters from the town center; there is a picnic area there. The beach is listed as tourist infrastructure and as an official bathing area. As this classification may be subject to seasonal or regulatory changes, check its current status in advance if you plan to swim.

The Camino Natural del Guadiana approaches Entrerríos along the right bank of the Guadiana. There are two birdwatching hides along the route for travelers with an interest in ornithology; it also passes the ruins of a watermill. The route also runs along the edge of Isla Trompeta, a landform enclosed by a new branch of the Guadiana river course. Birdwatching, mill ruins and the river landform offer different points of interest for travelers who want to explore the trail from various perspectives.

An alternative route along the Zújar may be flooded during periods of heavy rainfall. Check local conditions before setting out. While the Camino Natural approaches Entrerríos along the right bank of the Guadiana, the possibility of flooding during rainy periods is an important planning consideration for the alternative route along the Zújar.

Architecture and townscape

The colonization settlement of Entrerríos was designed in 1953 by architect Alejandro de la Sota Martínez. The town hall provides a concrete example of the local architecture: it is a three-story building with a portico on the ground floor. A small clock tower with a ceramic spire rises above the third floor. In this way, the settlement’s origins and the town hall’s clearly identifiable features offer two distinct ways of looking at the townscape.

Entrerríos is known for its distinctive round square and fountains. Plaza de España de Entrerríos has a continuous level surface that removes architectural barriers. The work was inaugurated in November 2023. There is also a landscaped garden area in the southeastern part of the square. The square’s design and architectural details are further concrete topics to explore if you are interested in the town’s layout during your stay.

The colonization settlement also features a ceramic mural by artist Arcadio Blasco Pastor. It adds a distinct artistic point of interest to the architectural features. If you are interested in art as well as buildings and the design of the square, this work is another aspect of the town to discover.

Festivals and seasonal events

The Romería de San Isidro takes place every year in Entrerríos. A procession leads the celebration to Playa de Entrerríos. The 2024 Romería program also included kayaking on the Zújar River. If you are planning your trip around this activity, check the program for the relevant year: the kayaking is documented for 2024 and should not be assumed to be part of another year’s program without current confirmation.

The festival in honor of the Virgen de Begoña is celebrated every October; dates and the program may change. During the celebrations in October 2025, encierros (running of the bulls) took place in the streets and across the square in the morning. As the format and dates may change, it is advisable to check the latest festival information before traveling. The Romería de San Isidro and the October festival offer different points of reference for planning your trip: the former’s procession and 2024 program lead to the beach and the Zújar, while the encierros described for 2025 are part of the October festival.
