When planning a trip to Gargüera, you can focus on hiking, historic buildings or a seasonal event. The Colada de los Majadales can be assessed in terms of route length and approximate walking time; the time of year matters when visiting the Piscina Municipal and attending the local festivals.

Hiking the Colada de los Majadales

The Colada de los Majadales is a 7.5-kilometre linear local hiking trail in Gargüera; it is listed as taking around two hours to walk and as having a low level of difficulty. The combination of route length and estimated duration provides a concise guide for planning your time, without treating the walking time as an exact measure. The starting point is on Calle Las Eras; there are two springs along the route. It first passes vineyards and fig orchards, then continues through Dehesa pastureland. It also crosses the Arroyo Rabanillo; the stream is surrounded by ash trees, oaks, poplars and scrubland.

Gorge and landscape

Another natural feature is the Garganta de Gargüera, also known as the Garganta del Obispo. You can take a walk along the gorge. Three reservoirs lie along its course: La Dehesa, Las Navas and De Gargüera. Oaks are widespread throughout the municipality of Gargüera; willows, ash trees and alders also grow along streams and in gorges. The vegetation across the municipality and the plants along waterways and in gorges thus represent distinct aspects of the landscape.

Buildings from different periods

The Iglesia Parroquial de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción stands outside Gargüera, about 500 metres from the town. Its altarpiece dates from the 17th century; the church also houses carvings of Nuestra Señora de Rocamador and San Blas.

Fuente de Abajo is a 16th-century structure attributed to the Moors. It was built of brick and masonry and covered by a vault with round arches. At the same time, the fountain still serves a practical purpose: it is used for livestock and to irrigate vegetable gardens. A historical attribution, specific architectural features and present-day use all come together here.

At Casas Caídas, its former function remains a matter of conjecture: the building may once have been a manor house. A coat of arms and a now badly damaged ashlar window remain at the entrance.

Seasonal recreation and festival dates

The Piscina Municipal de Gargüera is a municipal leisure and sports facility that remains open during the summer season. It has a pool for adults and a children's pool, natural shade and views of the surrounding area. If its opening dates are important for planning your trip, check the summer season dates in advance.

The Fiestas de San Blas in Gargüera take place from 3 to 5 February and include a procession of the “escalabraos” in traditional dress. The town's patron saint festival is also celebrated on 15 August. If you are planning to travel specifically for one of these festivals, check the dates in advance.
