If you are looking for a hotel in Serrejón, its landscapes, trails and historic sites can help you get a sense of the destination’s character. Serrejón lies within Monfragüe National Park. The municipality stretches across dehesas of cork oaks and holm oaks; hiking trails, viewpoints and religious buildings offer a range of ways to shape your stay.

Dehesa Landscapes and Views

From Serrejón, you can enjoy views of the surrounding Sierras Herguijuela, La Urraca and Las Parrillas, as well as the grazing dehesa plains to the north. Close to Serrejón, the Mirador de los Canchos offers a view of an impressive, rugged natural landscape. The sweeping views of ridges and plains are complemented by a viewpoint that particularly highlights the area’s rugged natural character.

Hiking Between Stages and a Circular Route

The Camino Natural del Tajo passes through Serrejón, among other places. Stage 33 runs from Higuera de Albalat to Serrejón; Serrejón is the first municipality in Monfragüe National Park. On this stage, you can watch birds at the Anguila Reservoir. The Camino del Tajo is a different route: it leads to the Tagus River. The two similarly named routes are therefore associated with different locations.

The PR-CC 67 Cerro de la Tejonera begins in Serrejón. It is 20.4 kilometres long and follows an out-and-back route. The trail passes through dehesa landscapes, Mediterranean woodland and Mediterranean scrubland. There are opportunities along the route to spot Spanish imperial eagles and cinereous vultures. While birdwatching at Anguila Reservoir is mentioned for Stage 33, the PR-CC 67 is associated with two specific birds of prey.

Hermitage, Church and Rock Art

The Ermita de San Antonio stands in the upper part of Serrejón and dates from the late 18th century. It offers views of the surrounding landscape. In the centre of town is the Church of San Ildefonso. It was built between the 15th and 18th centuries and features a distinctive tower, several altarpieces and sculptures. The two religious buildings link different historical periods with distinct viewpoints around the town.

The Cueva Bermeja is also located near Serrejón. This rock shelter in the Monfragüe Biosphere Reserve contains painted figures. As a rock shelter with figures, it is a different cultural landmark from the churches and hermitage in the town.

Annual Festivals

Serrejón’s patron saint festivities in honour of San Ildefonso take place on 23 January. The pilgrimage of the Santísima Virgen de la Oliva takes place on the first Sunday in May. These dates offer a helpful guide if you are interested in the town’s festivals. If you would like to plan your trip around one of these events, check the dates before you travel.
