Morpeguite is a district of Muxía. The connections to the Camino de Santiago, the village’s buildings and the road to the Caldeiras do Castro are distinct points of reference for planning your trip. If you are looking for hotels in Morpeguite, these topics can help you decide whether the pilgrims’ route, architecture or landscape should be the focus of your stay.

Casa de Lema and the Camino de Santiago

Casa de Lema is a farmhouse dating from 1920, located in Morpeguite, a district of MuxĂa. The house is two kilometres from the Camino de Santiago route to MuxĂa. Casa de Lema offers luggage transport for pilgrims; check the current arrangements for this service when booking. Eco Casa de Lema II is connected to the Camino de Fisterra-MuxĂa. When planning your trip, you can distinguish between a stated distance to the Camino de Santiago and the stated connection to the Camino.

Chapels and granaries

The Capela de Morpeguite is also known as the Capela da Casa da Rosenda. It belongs to the Casa da Rosenda estate and forms an ensemble with the granary, the main house and other outbuildings. The small rectangular chapel has a floor area of 4.5 × 5.5 metres. Its rubble-stone walls are complemented by dressed stones around the doorway and at the corners of the building. The three-sided roof is covered with curved roof tiles made in the region. A small covered forecourt, or solaina, is part of the entrance arrangement. The floor plan, masonry and roof form are specific features that help identify the chapel’s architectural style.

The Xunta’s 2025 basic plan lists Casa con patín en Morpeguite as an architectural heritage asset. Hórreo da Casa de Morpeguite is also listed there as an ethnographic heritage asset. Another structure is the Cabazo en Morpeguite, a Costa da Morte-type granary on a stone base. Six pairs of truncated-cone-shaped supports carry its chamber. This construction clearly shows how the base, supporting feet and storage chamber are arranged.

Road route and surroundings

The Costa da Morte road route to the Caldeiras do Castro passes through Morpeguite. Nearby, a road runs via Coucieiro and Trasufre to the Caldeiras, a natural and geological area on the Castro River. The landscape features there include rapids, waterfalls and large rock pools. Morpeguite’s buildings and the landscape along the river therefore represent two different themes for your trip planning: regional architecture on the one hand, and water and rock formations on the other.

In the recreation area near Morpeguite, before the river, stands the 17th-century Santo Outelo chapel. A stone cross monument from the same period is also located in the area. On 22 August 2024, it was reported that vegetation had overgrown the fountain and the sports ground was unusable. This report refers to the conditions at that time; check the current situation before visiting.
