Pedrafigueira: Waterfalls and Trails
Accommodation in Pedrafigueira
Discover Pedrafigueira through specific landscape and cultural highlights: a group of waterfalls among oak trees and ferns, the O Bico do Santo trail with named endpoints, the Senda Verde as an accessible trail option, and a patron saint festival on a set date. For planning your trip, this offers a range of different highlights rather than a single itinerary. First consider whether nature spots, one of the named trails, or the festival day is most important for your stay. You can also check your journey using two named public transport routes.
Waterfalls and landscape
The Fervenzas de Pedrafigueira, also known as Fervenzas das Fontes, are a group of waterfalls surrounded by oak trees and ferns. At the Fervenza das Fontes, also known as As Fontes, the highest waterfall is about ten metres high. The approximate height refers to the highest waterfall, not generally to every individual feature in the group. This distinguishes two different characteristics: the surrounding vegetation and the approximate height of the highest waterfall.
Trails and orientation
The O Bico do Santo trail starts in Lamas de Castelo and ends at A Cruz do Santo. This gives you specific start and end points for planning the route. There is a viewpoint and a cross at the summit of Bico do Santo. Another trail option is the Senda Verde, which can be accessed from Pedrafigueira. You can choose according to the features that matter most to you: clearly defined endpoints on the O Bico do Santo trail, a summit with a viewpoint and cross, or access to the Senda Verde.
Travel by public transport
Two public transport routes are named for the journey. The XG81700101 runs from Santiago via Bertamiráns, Noia, Muros and Cee to Fisterra; Pedrafigueira is listed as a stop. The XG81700105 runs from Muros via Cee to Fisterra and also includes Pedrafigueira as a stop. The routes differ in their starting points: Santiago for the first and Muros for the second. Check the current timetable before travelling.
Festival and local heritage
The San Sebastián de Pedrafigueira patron saint festival takes place on January 20. If you want to plan your trip around the festival, the date is a specific point to consider; check the event dates before booking accordingly. A three-metre-high stone cross stands at the summit of Bico do Santo. It was erected in 1935 by Domingo Otero Rama, a resident of Pedrafigueira. Its height, the year it was erected, and its named builder give the structure a specific local historical connection.
Planning your trip
If you are travelling by public transport, also take the timetable for the relevant route into account. This order can help you organise your travel requirements and interests, then compare the information for each hotel with your needs.
