Pasarela: Penedos, Views and Rock Formations
Accommodation in Pasarela
Pasarela is a rural settlement with a strong connection to the Penedos de Pasarela e Traba. If you are looking for a nature-focused stay, you will find some specific points of interest: a protected landscape, a southern walking trail, a named viewpoint and several distinctive rock formations. This combination can help you choose a destination if you want to focus on landscapes and rock formations.
Landscape and Trails
The southern part of the protected Penedos de Pasarela e Traba landscape lies in the Vimianzo parishes of Calo and Salto, north of the rural settlements of Pasarela and O Penedo. A southern walking trail to the Penedos starts in Pasarela, in the parish of Calo. To find your bearings, it helps to distinguish the geographic features: Pasarela is the trail’s starting point, while the Penedos is the name of the protected landscape it leads to. The trail system uses traditional paths and rights of way. The description of this trail system dates from 2021; local conditions may change. So check the current state of the trails before setting out.
Views from Torre da Moa
At 274 m, Torre da Moa is the highest point in the protected landscape. The Miradoiro da Torre da Moa viewpoint offers views of the Traba valley, the beach, Traba Lagoon and the Atlantic Ocean. The named sights include the valley and several coastal features: the beach, lagoon and Atlantic. This makes the viewpoint different from the individually named rocks: the view takes in several landscape features rather than the shape of a single stone.
Rock Formations and Their Features
The rock formations differ in shape, location and character. Galla de Pena Forcada is a split boulder, 258 m high, and marks the boundary between Vimianzo and Laxe. Pedra Abaladoira is a flat rock weighing several tonnes that can be moved by the weight of two or three people. Pedra Multiforme is considered one of the route’s most striking rock formations. At 258 m, Galla is 16 m lower than Torre da Moa, which is 274 m high. While Torre is the highest point in the protected landscape, Galla marks a municipal boundary; height and geographical function therefore clearly distinguish the two points. Pedra do Barco is located at Explanada da Ferida, at the foot of the Cachucha summit. Here, its precise location is the defining detail: Explanada da Ferida and Cachucha pinpoint the rock’s topographic position.
Historical Connection to Vimianzo
One additional point of historical interest is Casa-escola Enrique Labarta Pose in Vimianzo, which was inaugurated in 1931. This date offers a different focus from the views and rock formations, adding a local historical connection to the nature-related themes. If local history matters to you as well as landscapes, you can take this connection to Vimianzo into account when choosing your destination.
