If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Ponteceso, you can plan around its trails, landscapes, and cultural attractions. Options range from hikes and birdlife to architecture, the culture of games, and Galician poetry. This lets you decide in advance whether nature experiences or cultural stops should be the focus of your trip.

Hiking trails through diverse landscapes

The Ruta ambiental por el río Anllóns is about six kilometres long and runs along the Río Anllóns. It is considered easy and can be reached by bus. Its approximate length and difficulty level give you two specific criteria for planning your hike.

The Camiño da Ribeira PR-G 148 is also an officially approved hiking trail with a low difficulty level and bus access. When comparing the two trails, the Ruta ambiental has an approximate distance, while the Camiño is classified as an officially approved trail. Check bus connections before setting off.

A hiking trail runs through the Dunas da Barra at Monte Branco. The Ponteceso River Walk offers a different perspective: it leads over wooden walkways through a special bird protection area.

River landscapes and birdlife

At the mouth of the Río Anllóns, the Ensenada da Ínsua covers more than 100 hectares. Its ecosystems include river, dune, rocky-coast, and scrubland habitats; the area is also home to a rich variety of birdlife. The Río Anllóns also forms a natural corridor that facilitates the spread of species.

The Fervenzas da Saímia are a river landscape with a waterfall and two mills. Fishing is possible in the surrounding area. As fishing regulations can change, check the current rules in advance.

Cultural history and local traditions

The present-day Ponteceso Bridge has five arches and was built over an earlier bridge in the 19th century. The predecessor bridge is believed to have Roman origins. This distinction is important: the attributed Roman origins refer to the earlier bridge, while the current bridge dates from the 19th century.

The Museo Etnolúdico de Galicia (MELGA) presents the history of toys, as well as traditional and modern games and sports, in its exhibition spaces. If you are planning a museum visit, check the current visiting options in advance.

The Fundación Eduardo Pondal is located in O Couto and is of interest to anyone interested in Galician culture and poetry. If you are planning a visit, check the current visiting options in advance.

The Church of San Martiño de Cores also brings together different architectural periods: it dates from the 13th century, was remodelled in the 18th century, and has a Baroque façade. Those interested in the development of religious architecture will find here both the earlier date of origin and the later alterations, along with a specific feature of the façade.

Fuso da Moura is a spindle-shaped menhir. It may have served in prehistoric times as a marker or as an indication of burials. The so-called “Brantuas Lighthouse,” by contrast, is not a conventional lighthouse but a monument to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. It stands on Mount Faro, at an elevation of 231 metres, in the parish of San Xián de Brantuas in Ponteceso.

One local culinary event is the Festa do Percebe do Roncudo in Corme, where locals and tourists can sample goose barnacles.
