Along with San Marcos, Redonda is another entirely rural parish of CorcubiĂłn. Its highlights range from the church and the stone cross to hĂłrreos and archaeological sites; from Cabo da Nasa, views extend across coastal and landscape landmarks.

Church and stone cross

The Iglesia de San Pedro de Redonda was built in the late 12th and early 13th centuries. Its nave and chapel are each single-aisled and have a rectangular floor plan. The nave forms the main part of the church building; the chapel is a separate area. This places both the period of construction and the building’s division into two named parts in context.

The Cruceiro de San Pedro de Redonda, a granite crucifix-type stone cross, stands in the church atrium. At its base is the inscription “ES E LO HISO / IVº DE MN POR / SV DVON ANO / DE 1689”. Two different dates therefore appear side by side: the church was built in the late 12th and early 13th centuries, while the inscription on the stone cross bears the year 1689. The year refers to the inscription and should be distinguished from the church’s construction period.

Walking route and views at Cabo da Nasa

Cabo da Nasa can be reached from the Iglesia de San Pedro de Redonda via a 10- to 15-minute walk. The blue bench of CorcubiĂłn stands at Cabo da Nasa, in the parish of San Pedro de Redonda. From the cape, views extend over Cabo Fisterra, the coast of Redonda, Isla Lobeira, and Monte Pindo.

The church and the cape offer different points of interest: at the Iglesia, the focus is on its architectural form and the stone cross, while at the cape, it is on the walking route, the blue bench, and views across several named coastal and landscape landmarks. An interest in architecture and an outing to a viewpoint can thus be seen as two distinct facets of Redonda.

Rural architecture and castros

Rural architecture is also part of Redonda’s heritage. Numerous hórreos and examples of traditional vernacular architecture complement the church with other forms of built heritage. There are also two castros, each associated with a different place. Castro de Redonda is located in Redonda, in the parish of San Pedro de Redonda, and is a site of archaeological interest. Castro de Quenxe belongs to Quenxe within the parish of Redonda (San Pedro).

The two names refer to different places within the parish: Castro de Redonda is associated with Redonda, and Castro de Quenxe with Quenxe. Together with the hĂłrreos and traditional architecture, they create a picture shaped not only by the church but also by rural architecture and archaeological heritage.

A historical look at salt processing

The Fábrica de salazón de Boca do Sapo dates from the late 19th century and is located in Boca de Sapo, in the parish of Redonda. Its name refers to salt processing. As a historical link to the parish’s industrial past, it complements the church and stone cross. It is in very poor condition and is no longer in use. Before visiting, check whether its condition or use has changed. The different construction and dating details can be clearly distinguished: the church dates from the late 12th and early 13th centuries, the stone cross inscription bears the year 1689, and the factory dates from the late 19th century.

Getting there and route markers

To reach the Iglesia de San Pedro de Redonda, take the road from CorcubiĂłn toward Fisterra; at Campo de San Roque, turn left toward Redonda. A local route reaches Redonda after 5.8 km and the Iglesia de San Pedro de Redonda after 6.2 km. The 0.4 km difference marks two separate waypoints: first Redonda, then the church. The distances locate these points along the route, while the 10- to 15-minute figure describes the walking time from the church to Cabo da Nasa.
