Ribeira: Beach, Port and Culture
Accommodation in Ribeira
Ribeira combines a long beach with a market, port architecture and cultural sites. If you’re looking for hotels in Ribeira, you can first consider which of these aspects of the destination you want to shape your stay.
Playa de Coroso and the views
Playa de Coroso is in Santa UxĂa de Ribeira and is 1,750 metres long. It has a seafront promenade. The beach offers views of Ribeira, Isla de RĂşa and the outer section of the RĂa de Arousa. For your travel plans, Coroso combines a definite coastal setting with views of the town, island and ria—a beach-focused option alongside the cultural and port sites.
Market and port architecture
Ribeira Municipal Market has more than 20 stalls selling fish, meat, fruit and frozen goods. Its offerings therefore span various product categories and are not limited to fish. Alongside the beach and cultural heritage, the market has a place of its own when exploring the town.
The Ribeira fish market is a modern building designed by CĂ©sar Portela together with the DĂaz&DĂaz Arquitectos studio. Ribeira’s port activity gives the fish market considerable appeal for visitors. The market and fish market have different focuses: one highlights stalls and the range of goods, while the other showcases modern architecture and its connection to the active port.
Church and routes through Ribeira
The Port of Santa UxĂa de Ribeira is on the Ruta del Mar de Arousa y Ulla. The Igrexa Parroquial de Santa UxĂa is also on this route. These sites connect the port and cultural aspects with a designated route.
Another route is the Camino de Santiago. It is more than 120 kilometres long and runs in five stages through the municipalities of Ribeira, A Pobra, Boiro, Rianxo, Dodro and PadrĂłn. Ribeira is therefore part of its route. While the Ruta del Mar de Arousa y Ulla can be associated with two specific sites in Ribeira, the Camino covers several municipalities and stages. This distinction helps you differentiate between visiting specific sites and following a longer route through several municipalities.
Museum, manor house and Club Náutico
The Sala Museo Municipal de Ribeira displays more than 700 objects donated by residents. The museum is in a renovated building in the centre of Santa UxĂa de Ribeira. The objects’ provenance gives the collection a direct connection to the local community.
The Casa Solariega Dos Otero Goyanes, also known as Pazo dos Marqueses de Revilla, is a private building. You can only view it from the outside. This gives the pazo a different cultural focus from the museum and its collection: here, the building’s exterior is the main attraction.
The building of the Club Náutico de Ribeira, inaugurated in 2001, is a centre for a wide range of activities. Together with the port and fish market, it adds another dimension of Ribeira to the coastal and cultural themes mentioned above.
