Teixeiro can be planned around a range of interests: routes connect the town with Mascoto and Santaia, while other paths follow the Carregal River or pass through riverside woodland. There is also the Centro Etnográfico, the Feria de Teixeiro and programmes focused on food or music. If you are looking for a hotel, you can first decide whether nature, culture or a specific event date will shape your stay.

Hiking Trails and Nature

Two hiking trails are each 3 km long, but have different connections to nearby places: the A Ponte Mascoto route links Teixeiro and Mascoto, while the Ruta dos plátanos links Santaia and Teixeiro. Their equal length makes it easy to compare them, while their endpoints include different places. If you would like to include Mascoto or Santaia in your travel plans, the route names can help you choose. You can use them to guide you based on which of these places is relevant to your stay.

The SM.02 Ruta paseo fluvial de Carregal follows the Carregal River through Teixeiro. The Ruta de Aves: Río do Carregal passes through riverside woodland, home to numerous bird species. The routes have different focuses: the SM.02 describes the river’s course through Teixeiro, while the Ruta de Aves focuses on the riverside woodland and its birdlife. If you are interested in nature and birds, these themes offer another way to plan your time in Teixeiro.

Culture and Event Dates

The cultural programme at the Centro Etnográfico de Teixeiro includes exhibitions, guided tours, workshops, courses and meetings organised by public and private institutions. If you plan to attend a specific event, check in advance which activities will be taking place during your visit. Educational visits are aimed particularly at school-age young people. If you are planning such a visit, check the current options in advance as well.

The Feria de Teixeiro takes place on the 5th and 18th of each month in the Plaza de España, in front of the town hall. Check the specific date before planning your trip around it. This way, you can include the feria as a dedicated activity rather than simply treating it as a general event mention in your plans.

The programme for the XIX ExaltaciĂłn dos Cogomelos de Teixeiro included a food trail through participating restaurants in Curtis and Teixeiro. A variety of tapas, small dishes and mushroom dishes were served there. The programme for the VIII Ruada de Teixeiro featured performances by various groups with traditional singing and dancing. The two events therefore had different focuses: a food trail featuring mushroom dishes, and a programme of singing and dancing. Check the event dates before planning a trip around one of these editions.

Getting There and Planning

Teixeiro is regularly served by buses from A Coruña. If you plan to use this service to get there, check the timetable before travelling. You can then decide whether to choose your hotel based on one of the named routes, a visit to the Centro Etnográfico or a confirmed event date. These routes and cultural attractions offer different options, and you do not have to limit your trip to just one activity.
