When planning a trip to Trazo, you can choose activities based on three questions: Would you like to spend several hours on a route, are you interested in riverscapes and buildings, or would you like to plan your stay around a festival date? The options range from the Ruta de Trazo to churches and bridges, as well as pilgrimage and food festivals. If you’re looking for a hotel in Trazo, prioritizing these themes can help you plan a trip around your own interests.

Ruta de Trazo: Time Required and Participation

The Ruta de Trazo is free and rated easy; it takes approximately five hours. A registration confirmation is required to take part. The time required and difficulty level answer different planning questions: the route takes up a substantial block of time, but is described as easy. Treat confirmation as a firm condition for participation, and check the latest registration information and itinerary details before setting out.

Rock Formations and Churches

The Monte do Pedroso area in Monzo features striking granite formations and is suitable for an excursion. Pedra Faladora is a large, striking rock shaped like a human face. Cova dos Mouros has a narrow entrance and a quadrangular engraving with a hole in the center. The area therefore offers a range of natural and cultural points of interest: granite formations, an unusual rock formation and an engraving.

Pazo de Vilacoba has a long balcony with a stone balustrade and a family coat of arms. For those interested in churches, San Xoán de Campo, with its Romanesque features, and the 12th-century church of San Pedro de Benza offer two different points of interest. The pazo stands out for its architectural details, while the churches offer architectural context and a historical date, respectively.

Riverscapes and Buildings

Along the Chonia River, the heritage complex includes fulling mills, mills and former local power stations near the river. You can explore the banks of the Chonia on foot and discover traditional architecture along the river. This lets you combine a look at the buildings with a riverside walk, without assuming a particular walking time or distance.

The Tambre River and its tributaries are included in the Natura 2000 network as a Site of Community Importance because of their leafy riverside woodlands. A Ponte Albar is a stone bridge with five arches and is listed in the Catalogue of Historic Viaducts of Galicia. Nearby, anglers and day-trippers head to the banks of the Tambre. A road crosses the river there via A Ponte Albar and continues into the municipality of Trazo.

Pilgrimages and Festival Dates

Pilgrimage festivals are held twice a year at the Ermita de Santa Eufemia y San Mateo: on September 16 for Santa Eufemia and on September 21 for San Mateo. Other recurring dates mark different times of year: Festa do Chourizo, also called the Chorizo Festival, takes place on the Sunday during Carnival celebrations; Festa do Grelo, also called the Turnip Greens Festival, takes place in March. The festivals are therefore spread across different times of year. If you’re planning your trip around a particular celebration, check the dates for your travel year.
