Moaña: River Routes, Coast and Culture
Accommodation in Moaña
Moaña combines river routes, coastal landscapes and cultural attractions, which you can weigh differently when planning your trip. If you’re looking for a hotel in Moaña, the kind of stay you want can be a good starting point: Would you like to choose a route by length and difficulty, focus on a coastal town, or discover Romanesque art and an open-air museum? The local features below provide some specific points of interest to help you decide.
River routes by length and character
The Ruta do Río da Fraga is 6 kilometres long and of moderate difficulty. It starts at Praia da Xunqueira and follows the riverbank for its entire length. Along the route, you can visit restored mills. The Miradoiro da Fraga and waterfalls can be reached via optional routes or detours; they are additional destinations, not features described as part of the route throughout.
A shorter alternative is the Sendeiro de Rial da Arca: this is a linear route of about 2.4 kilometres with an easy difficulty level. The path follows the Rial da Arca stream between Igrexa do Carme in the centre of Moaña and the PO-313 road between Marín and Moaña in Sanchelán. Compared with the Ruta do Río da Fraga, the two routes differ in both length and difficulty, as well as in their course: one follows a stream between named endpoints, while the other runs alongside a riverbank for its entire length.
Another moderately difficult route runs through the parish of Domaio: the Ruta do Río da Freixa e da Miñouba is approximately 7 kilometres long. Its first section starts at Praia do Almacén and passes through the Ensenada do Mouro, a special conservation area within the Natura 2000 network. Many species of waterbirds occur in this area. Thus, choosing a route can also mean taking a section through a protected natural area, in addition to considering different lengths and difficulty levels.
Coast and water sports
Praia do Con is an easily accessible urban beach in the parish of Tirán and is about 150 metres long. In Domaio, the calm coastal waters by the marina are suitable for Traíña regattas and various water sports. If you’re planning a trip around a specific regatta, check the event date in advance.
Romanesque art and local history
Igrexa de San Xoán de Tirán is one of the few examples of Romanesque art near the sea in the province of Pontevedra. Museo das Carreiras explores a different subject: it is an open-air museum dedicated to the thread-making industry. The two sights represent different cultural themes, from Romanesque art to an industrial sector. At a medieval tower, the structure, an arms courtyard, sections of the wall and a defensive tower are visible.
Event date and trip planning
A specific event date in Moaña was 2 August 2026: on that day, the Festa do Mexillón de Moaña took place in its 28th edition. If you’d like to plan a future stay around a festival, check the relevant event dates before making your plans. That way, you can choose when to travel based on whether a particular event or the routes, coast and cultural heritage are your main priorities.
